just drove my zed to canberra ,from coffs harbour i got 625ks to a tank of fuel,,n,a manual,,using the air con as well ,funny enough i just traded my abflug front bar for a stock tt front bar ,my fuel economy with that bar was sh!t house, around 385ks a tank,,glad i got the tt stock bar now,,it was red last wednesday ,so i gave it a hit of 2pak black silver n clear, came out great,,,,
the zed never missed a beat ,only drama, was when the temp got to 3/4 on the gauge twice ,,so off to super cheap in tuggernong for a new radiator cap and new coolant,,all good[IMG]

While you're there I suggest getting a temp gauge too!!

why would you get such better economy with a different bumper?

Of course it *could*, don't forget that some of these front dams would cause an increase in drag, resulting in a decrease in fuel economy, especially at cruising speeds.

    Whether it *would* is arguable.

Good story mate. I've done a trip to Albury and back from Melbourne (what's that - about 600km?). The GOR down here was trouble free for most / all of us too ( > 500km too). A well serviced Zed will give you no problems on big cruises.

The long drives are what make you appreciate your Zed. Even my easy cruise back on the Calder freeway yesterday (from the Goldfields run) put a smile on my face. A subtle exhaust drone, good music, sweeping bends and a leather steering wheel. Awesome.

If anyone just kick their Zed around town, I suggest taking it for a blast on the open road to see why it was made the way it was. Long distance crusing is its thing!

I drove from Brisbane to Cairns and back for my honeymoon (which is nearly 1800km each way, plus driving around up there). Got almost 700 kms to a tank (NA Auto) with air-con at times but not all the time. was awesome to stick cruise control on sit back and watch the kilometers fly by.

Took mine over the summer to Mt Gambier and surrounds, total of 1800km in 5 days including about 50ks on dirt roads! I whinced the whole way down them. haha

The car loved it, as did I and I now realise SA has 110km/hr on all country roads, soo good. Really missed that once I crossed back over the border.

You were doing 110km on dirt in the zed?

    Righto.

But agreed, sitting back finding your old ass groove and letting the kms go by, is by far best done in a zed. Fuel economy amazes me too. Just shows how average it is to drive on/off all the time around town and in traffic.

Must find a sweet spot in the fuel map where all it needs is a vapor of fuel and plenty of air.

Lol, was going to say. Thats a fair effort doing 110km on the dirt in the zed. Straight lines may have been ok should you not care about the paint, but corners....whoops!

QLD still have 110km? Dont they, been a while since ive been back home, but SA isnt the only place.

well it happined ,the front bar was a big, multi shaped thing, abfug style,.it was like trying to push a brick through the oncoming air

Yeah I'm sure the new bar is slighly more aerodynamic, you might get 5% increase in overall efficiency at 110km/h but i cant see almost a halving of fuel consumption due to a change in front bar design.

According to that theory vans and buses shouldnt even be able to travel at 100km/h.

But yeah, thats great and keep up the good work, get that temp issue sorted before it bites ya.

    Peace

turns out the air condendsor bracket was rubbing on the core just below the top tank in the radiator and wore 3 of the tinyest holes in it ,found that yesterday ,time for a new radiator
