Nope, that's normal. Board is only $220 or so by itself.

Thanks for that Chrispy!! I just finally figured out the ordering form for pricing.
As I already have a USB consult cable, I was just looking to get the NIStune daughterboard by itself.
I was planning to ghost my Z1 chipped ecu program onto the daughterboard and use that as my base program. The only corrections to that Z1 chipped prgram is a +10% fuel at idle via my Apexi NEO. Is this a good idea?

If that is possible and a good idea, do I need to also buy the licence and the USB Base Image Programmer?

If I don't need those 2 things will I still be able to manipulate that base (Z1 chipped) program?

    Chrispy Pretentious Upstart

    Yes, that will work fine.

You will need the license, but not the base image programmer thing unless you plan on using the nistune board in other type 2 cars (other than zeds).

I have no intention of using the NIStune board anywhere else other than my own ECU.
So if I understand correctly, I still have to buy a licence for my private use anyway because I choose to do my own tuning?
There are no registered NIStune tuners in my Province so there's no option to go without a licence. Kinda sucks when you think about it.
I thought NIStune might be a better alternative to my chipped ECU but with such odd constrictions, I may have to look to something else. I was actually looking forward to my back country road dyno pulls and local roadcourse for self tuning purposes. Having to pay $150 extra for that priviledge seems pretty dumb IMO.

    Thanks for the clarification Crispy.

Yes, you have to pay for a license because you want to do your own tuning. The Nistune software is hugely better than all the other Nissan tuning software I have seen.

I'd hardly call it an odd restriction, think of it this way: You buy a Haltech for $2000 and it comes with the software for free. You buy nistune for $420 and it comes with the software for free ;)

The nistune software can be used with normal chip burners for practically any 'good' Nissan between 1988 and 2001. That's why it isn't free, it isn't specific to the Nistune hardware.

    I see, thanks for that.
If NIStune made it specific to only your Nistune daughterboard and then there wouldn't be a need for a licence. It would give the customer the option to do self tune or public tune at a registered NIStune tuner.

    NIStune Daughterboard - $220.00
    Install of Daughterboard - $50.00
    Ghost/transfer of my Z1 program - ~ $25.00 ???? guestimate
    Individual Licence - $180.00
Shipping - ~$25.00 guestimate one way
    Total - $500.00

I'm not so sure it would be $500 better than my current Z1 chipped ECU.

If it was specific to the nistune hardware then the hardware would cost more to capture the costs of developing the software... Either way someone has to pay for it :p

You could do the transfer of the Z1 program yourself in about 10minutes. Install of the daughterboard is dead easy if the ECU is already socketed (probably is if it's a Z1 ECU).

As for the worth to you, that is something you have to decide... IMO it is, but I like fiddling with stuff like that

I'd be in for a nistune. No idea about the difference between, the type 2 or 3 board though

Depends on what type of ECU you have, 8 bit or 16bit. The early ones are type 2.

parker Been around for a bit

    I'm a possibility

Depending on final price, as I have a HITECH ecu upgrade and I can't play with it so it's going! I am buying some big brakes first. But if it's only a few hundred. I am in

Sounds like you're in a similar situation like me. Using your HITECH chip base map and have it transfered to NIStune and wanting the ability to do your own tuning? Look to my post above for a rough calculation of cost.

How about we start this up in "Group Buy". I am happy to put my hand up and run this unless Chrispy wants to stick his hand up for making a hat trick of " Nistune Group Buys". I would be aiming for delivery of goods before the end of February. What does everyone think?

    misszen Red ones go faster!

    Count me in for one!

I was advised to get one of these so I'll be in this group buy!
I'm pretty sure I have the ECU for a Type 2 as Im 1994- anyone know how I can check quickly just to make sure -

question - are the ECU 16 bits for later models ?- I guess being newer they must be better not to mention they take a a newer design Nistune board - but it probably is minimal in difference and not worth changing to a ECU 16bit - is that right guys?
I guess a type 3 ecu wouldnt fit anyway as it would have a different socket (more connections) is that right - just want to check all my options / make sure before I jump

    thanks
    Linda
