I am interested if any member knows this car and can give me some info/background. It is in Clayton South, Vic. I am on Gold Coast, Qld so it would be a bit of a trek just to kick a tyre or two. Carsales web address is: http://www.carsales.com.au/used-car...ImageCount_Int32|1&distance=25&Cr=10&trecs=34 Car is a 1997 300ZX TT listed on carsales.com.au for $9,900. Thanks in advance
I don't know the car. Most of the cues that would help to identify it as a '97 have been removed. Interior trim changed, aftermarket rear spoiler etc. If it is a '97, the airbag steering wheel has been replaced by an aftermarket non-airbag wheel, which may be an issue if detected at roadworthy. Also, door mounted belts were supposed to have been stopped in '94, although that may have been US only. Ask the guy for the GCZ build number from the Nissan build plate on the top of the radiator support. Cross reference it to the build date page in the tech section ~click here~ and go to "buying a Z, what you should know", then "checking the actual year of manufacture". Alternatively, see if anyone can do a Nissan Fast check on that number. Personally, I doubt that it is a '97, and that needs to be confirmed before someone pays money believing it to be one. However, if it checks out, then good, and the interior rework looks to be reasonable. Hate the front bar though!
Engine is older than 93 (one acceleration rope) even it looks like there are no cruise control buttons....
Agreed, there are a couple of things that indicate that it's not a '97. For instance the window switches are still the old style - and no-one would ever change window switches back to the old style, even the looms are different. Also, the seatbelts were moved off the door and to the body in '93, so the car isn't even a '93 model. Climate control was changed to manual knob type. In the engine bay too, balance tube on the late model zeds is a gold colour. Not to mention the guy's claim that the car has travelled 60,000kms.. lol Basically, to cut a long story short, the guy's bullshitting in every single way. Cheers, -Kirill
Umm, thats coz there isn't any crusie control No cruise control means 1 throttle cable. It's definitely not a '97. I reckon it was imported in '97 and that is written on the compliance plate. Hydraulic HICAS was dropped in '94 That style of climate control finished in '92 Seatbelts and switches as others have said
It's also got early series tail lights(and orange repeater lights on the sides), HICAS should be electric on late models. In short, whoever is offering this car for sale, is a complete bullshit artist.:bash::bash::bash:
Thanks to all members for your responses. Clearly for it to have been a '97 would have made it a very rare car for Australia. Hence my suspicion and forum request of those far more knowledgeable than me. My first question of the guy would have been the engine no. As for the bodykit and yellow interior, they would quickly have found their way onto the forum or ebay.
If he can't tell the truth about the year model, what chance is there that he will answer any other questions truthfully? If it looks like a Duck, sounds like a Duck and swims like a Duck, chances are it's a Duck.
