just looking at car alarms and found this.

    one quick question also,

I've seen a few cars going around without a front number plate, including Porsche (no place to mount, like pic above)

is not having a front number plate illegal ? if so where to mount it where no mount ? (didn't look like Porsche could mount a front plate)

Porsche can why can't i ? Motor bikes don't need front also.

still definitely need a front plate. Not in photos though :p I'd say that it's been photoshopped out. Still possible to mount a plate, just directly to the bar i guess. Or on the lower lip

I know some Brits put stick-on number plates on cars that don't provide a proper mounting point (mostly classics).

    Here's an example:

I'm guessing the sticker plate would need to be reflective to be legal..

I think it was in California I noticed they only had to run rear plates... made me realise how ugly front plates are. I'm looking forward to electronic plates similar to how the eTag's work.

yer my front plate is mounted on my bar and its hell dirty. its like a metal thing screwed into my bar and then the plate on top, i put a cover on it so its no sooo bad, but they kinda detract from my nice clean smooth front bar.

(also have a bent plate in order to fit my back bar) will need to buy those ones that fit..

i also have a bent plate in rear bar

police pulled me over and gave me a hard time over it

so just stated was import and that it got passed import checks and engineered like that.

and i invited a ticket to make sure and then they were not interested with it and never since then.

but i still want NO plate on front. willing to get painters to trim where mount is and clean up and just have plate in car. we'll see what happens i guess

We've got USA style plates and they fit perfectly, no bending. It is illegal to alter, cut, bend your plates in any way and also illegal to have only one plate on... you have to have front and back plates on.

That is true, unless numberplate can not be mounted in accordance with the legislation due to the "Construction" of the vehicle.
That being so, you can mount them as closely as possible to the legislation.
    That's QLD anyway.
I posted the legislation some time ago, and I keep a copy in the car with me.

I'm waiting for the day I can pull the paperwork out and stick it up a Policeman's nose if he thinks I'll be an easy mark in that regard.

There are a few cars out there that are not required to have front number plates. NSW legislation, similar to QLD stipulates (in lamans terms) that if, due to manufactures design, there is no provision for a number plate on the front of the car, then it is not required to have it. This does not include Bomex, or abflug, or UAS, or any of the AM bars out there that don't have plate brackets. For these bars you need to have the plate in a position where it is readable from 45 degrees from the nose of the car. Cars like the 1966 Ferrari 275GTB had a curved nose with no number plate brackets, thus didn't need a number plate.

Almost every car post 1970 had a number plate bracket on the nose.

On that note I drove around for 2 years with no plate on the black car, carried that legislation with me, and got off about 5 times. Did the same with the current car and got hauled over the flames by a cop.
