Lost my license a couple of months back and have let my zed sit idle for all this time. Now i put a new battery in and when i went to turn it on the air con came on all by itself, the pen door light when the doors were closed an no lights came up when i went to crank her over. What can i do ??

I had a similar problem with the Mrs. car (not the E46 :D  ) and all it turned out to be was a poor connection to the battery. I was pretty surprised because I cleaned one terminal and fitting because I had to replace the fitting (terminal clamp thingy)... but it was the other terminal I didn't touch that caused the problem  . Everything was tight but it must have just been coincidence it built up a bit of that corrosion fouling at that time.

might be that as my old battery is completely stuffed so i tried to start her up by hooking the battery leads onto a jumper lead than hooking it onto a battery i knicked from my old mans car. Could that be it ???

You mean no lights as in on the dash when you try to start it? If you changed the battery the terminals are probly loose and a good connection isnt made.

yeah no lights on the dash. and it can't be a loose connection as like i said i connected the battery leads to a jumper cable than to another battery that i know is good. is it the jumper leads because i would have thought they would not stop the battery from working. Have a cooked the computer or something ???

try too disconnect the battery then disconect the computer. leave it for a couple of min hook up and try, it may reset. it takes a bit to fry em. i'm a mechanic at the wharfs and have seen fuk heds jump starting a flat jap car with 24V, not cool:mad:

    Check fuses

Its not uncommon to loose a fuse then have lots of random interrelated faults.
There are the ones near the accelerator pedal, and some bigger ones in engine bay beside the barakefluid reservoir.

    remove old battery

Try removing the old battery completely and replace it with the good one, rather than using jumper leads. If the old battery is stuffed it could be shorting the good battery out too.

A dead battery and jumper leads just don't work unless you have really thick and beefy cables. If the cables get hot when you are trying to jump start they are too thin and cannot transfer the energy needed.

Also if the old battery is dead, it may also be shorted out and will just kill your new one.

If you bought a new battery, why did you not install it rather than use jumper leads.

Get a battery charger, a good one with a boost button that can be left on to help start the car.
