Sometimes these questions come up, and hard facts are needed to remove confusion. Please correct any errors I may have made...

USA Z32 TT's came out with:
    225/50 x 16 x 7.5 on the front
    245/45 x 16 x 8.5 on the rear

Stillen Anniversary Z32 TT's came out with:
17 inch rims with different rim widths on the front and rear
However, the above company SMZ released those 17 inch rims, so I'm not sure if it qualifies as original manufacturer rims? Any opinions here?

    http://www.dotars.gov.au/transport/safety/road/bulletin/pdf/ncop11_section_ls_suspension_and_steering_3feb2006.pdf
page 15 - spacers are not allowed for the z32
page 16 - wheel+rubber overall diameter can't increase more than 15mm or decrease more than 26mm
page 16 - tyre aspect ratio shouldn't differ by more than 10 from front wheel to back wheel (ie 50 on front and 45 on back is a difference of 5 and is ok)
page 16 - tyre width on the front tyres can't be less than 70% of the width of the rear tyres
page 16 - tyres fitted must not be more than 30% larger than oem's widest optional size and the rim width must not exceed the recommendations of that tyre fitted
page 17 - wheel track can't increase more than 25mm and can't decrease at all, so rim offset can't increase more than 12.5mm
page 17 - a table listing the widest oem tyre and corresponding info as:
225 front tyre = 285 max allowable tyre width (130%) = max allowable rim size of 11"
245 rear tyre = 315 max allowable tyre width (130%) = max allowable rim size of 12.5"
page 20 - strut braces are allowed
page 20 - sway bars are allowed to be changed

And seemingly for the WA boys? :(

^ this one is a bit of a doozy :(
Alternative road wheels are permitted under the following conditions :

Rim width must not exceed the maximum rim width specified by the manufacturer by more than 25mm (1") (for passenger vehicles manufactured after 1st January 1973, the manufacturers rim width shall be taken as that specified on the tyre placard).
In any event, rim width shall not exceed 177.8 mm (7") unless specified by the manufacturer as standard equipment for the vehicle in question. No increase in rim width is permitted for vehicles fitted with original equipment rims in excess of 177.8 mm (7") width.

The wheel is contained completely within the body work of the vehicle which includes acceptable flares.

The wheel does not foul any part of the body or suspension under all conditions of travel

The vehicle handling is not impaired in any way.

The tyre to rim fitment must be in accordance with the Tyre and Rim Association Manual.

Rim diameters must be the same as specified by the manufacturer.

The wheel must be one designed for use with the vehicle with respect to bolt pitch circle and wheel nut tapers

The track must not be increased by more than 25mm (1") over the maximum specified by the manufacturer.etc.
All wheels must be the same size, profile and bolt pattern.

Vehicles required to comply with Australian Design Rule 24, "Tyre & Rim Selection" must continue to comply with this Design Rule (contact the Department of Transport and Regional Services for more details).

The fitment of so called "plus one" and "plus two" and tyres is acceptable providing :

the overall diameter of the large rims fitted with the lower profile tyres do not exceed the overall diameter

all tyres and rims fitted to the vehicle are of the same size and profile

with the exemption of item (f), the tyres and rims are in conformity with the requirements specified above in items (a) to (j).

Reducing the wheel track less than the original manufacturers specification is not permitted, as this may reduce vehicle stability.

Unless the car is engineered. In NSW anyway spacers and track mods are allowed if engineered as far as I am aware.

Good speil though as always mate

    A couple of minor corrections.

The 25th anniversary cars were officially sold by Nissan, and included Stillen enhancements. The main point is that they were sold with all parts fitted by the Nissan motor company, which means the widest wheel fitted by the manufacturer was 17x9, just get one of the late model tyre placards.

The SMZ was (as far as I'm aware) a very limited run that was only available in the US. I also believe that all the cars were actually modified by Stillen after production.

Well is this one of the enhancements that was installed whilst still in Nissan hands?
ie. is that an option fitting from the manufacturer for the z32

The 25th Anniversary models had a Stillen bodykit and different springs, shocks and rollbars as well as 17x9" AVS wheels front and back.

Any know if any of these SMZ's are in OZ?

    Quote:
In 1991, as well as in 1995 for the Z's 25th anniversary, Steve Millen, a famous race-car driver from New Zealand, mentioned below, built a limited-edition run of 300 tuned 300ZXs, known as the SMZ, through his company Stillen. These cars featured such features as flamboyant bodywork and paint and extensive performance upgrades, resulting in 460 bhp (343 kW) 1991 edition and 365 bhp (272 kW) 1995 edition.

and does anyone know what these 'extensive performance upgrades' included:confused: ?

can i make an extra couple of points.. the first document is the national code of practice and holds australia wide, good luck finding an engineer to approve wheel spacers

i dont understand how we have 2 doccos we must adhere to.. but hey contradict each other.

also.. wheel track is measured from the center of the tyre.. increasing wheel width by 30% doesnt change track.. only changing offset does

To answer some of your questions:

Yes the Anniversary models sold in Australia had 17x9 all round - they were non-turbo 300zx!

Twin turbo Anniversary models were sold in the USA and had 17x8.5F and 18x9.5R - and as the twin turbo's were never sold in Australia, you have to see what the model was equipped with overseas in order to understand what it is legal to use on the vehicle. In this case, those yokohama rims were the stock rims!

And here is the documentation, that clearly shows the wheel sizes and importantly, that it was sold by NISSAN that way:

Also, take note of some of the other options that it came out of nissan with, including gtr brakes and "high flow intake filter system" :)

    Cheers,
    Matt.
