thermo is fine, water pump seems new. The water is a rusty orange colour and the amount of shit that came out of the radiator is huge.

Did you take the water pump off and inspect it, or are you going by how it looks from outside?
If the water from the radiator/block is a rusty orange/brown, then it would suggest that there has not been any coolant added to the engine for a long time.
This would/could have done damage to the cooling system and should be thoroughly checked before re-assembly. Engines with a mixture of cast iron and aluminium(blocks/heads)are susceptible to a high level of corrosion due to electrolysis, when coolant is not present.

what should i check with the cooling system? Ill get the pump out tomorrow and let you know. If i bypass the heater then flush it with the hose should it get most the shit out of there?

    perhaps not

I think since half of it is off... you should call a Mobile Rad place and get one of thier Vans to come out and Power Flush your block with one of their machines. This is the only proper way to get the rusty crap out. Tell them you have already pulled it apart and all you want is the power flush. Then re assemble with 3 parts glycole / concentrate 7 parts water. Gives a nice 30% concentrate mix and you should be sitting good. May as well get an OEM thermostat and cap while its all apart. Dont go aftermarket as they open either too early or too late. Rad caps are .9 bar for NA and 1.2bar for TT. :zlove:
