Yes this was one of the real deal, Group A Gibson $600,000 Bathurst GIO GTR.
I might add it should have been faster around the circuit, although not dirven hard by the new owner. Down the straight he gave it the boot though. Zed grunt with boost button did the job.

For an early 90's car thats extreemly expensive, even by todays v8 standards the Gibson car is still expensive.

V8 Supercars cost a lot more than $600k.

Easy $600k in those cars, was a big writeup in Zoom a couple of years back on the windfield one that has been restored and I think currently lives in a glass box at the bathurst museum?

    Motor alone.

V8 Supercar motor alone is $150k, but thousands of hours spent on the car especially the body and roll cage etc. Hard to put a figure on it.

Couple of serious GTR's coming to Circuit Battle 27th April at Wakefield and will give me a hard time, and should be very close times.

But pretty sure i have spent something in that ball park on the Zed.;) ;) ;)
PS, don't tell she who must be obeyed or she will have me in a glass box.:D :D :D

    CrestaJohn NEW 'OEM' PARTS

    V8 Supercar engine

Costs around $110K but guys like Stone Brothers manufacture there own inlet manifolds etc.

So definately over $100K not quite $150K - Sorry John, that's from the horse's mouth (so to speak)

If you were to ad up running costs and build time on these then $600K is nowhere near the mark, although I am lead to believe you can buy an ex Level 1 car for around the $200-300K mark.

Give you some idea on sponsorship $$$$, Glenfords has just spent nearly $3M on sponsorship of a V8 team which I don't think is Level1, or is it?

Well done on the PI times, how would it have gone without the 'push to pass' button out of curiosity? - time wise?

    regards

    Race car cost

One will never know what they cost for real I guess as mine must be up around a zillion dollars if added up all the engines and testing and around 600 runs on our dyno alone.

I spoke to two V8 Super car drivers today, and one told me about the motor but they only steer them not pay the bills. What you hear and what is reality can be very different. These GTR's would have had a lot more development to do as new to the scene. I know they made their own cast manifolds, studs etc etc

The tip was to try and keep under the noise limit which sort of worked as still got a warning.

Don't think its a Gibson GTR, anyway it was great to see the new owner actually using it rather than wrapping his 250K purchase in cotton wool like most of them do, more of a demo run than anything else.

Mind you, there were some impressive runs down the main straight, slot car was one of them, the V8 S30 was another..

250K is a bunch and would want to be the real deal for that much. I am sure it is the real thing and looked identicle to the Winfield GTR up in Sydney that came to one of our track days a few years back and did not push it hard either. It was probably on low boost also.

Yeh there is a similar Winfield GTR in existence, not sure but I thought the Gibson GTR's came later, including their Winfield ones, could well be wrong though. Anyway, it was a blast of a day, seriously, Fleet's Z32 sounded good too.
