Hello people. Got a few temperature issues with my wifes zed. (twin turbs 5 speed) we've had the car for about 3 years and its been pretty good. So here goes the saga.

The only mods the car had when we bought it was a catback exhaust and a veilside front bar. The previous owner put a new water pump, fan belts, thermostat, timing belt.

First thing i did was put a aftermarket temp gauge in, once warmed up, on a normal day (24 c) temp would sit at 88 when idling and in traffic, and will climb to 90-95 when doin 100km/h. On a hot day its worse, trash it up a hill and it will hit 110 degrees.

To be honest we drove it like that for a while, cause it was pretty consistent, never actually started to run bad.

Then we put a front mount intercooler on and pod filter, at the same time i pulled out the air con core, and thermo fan to try and get some better airflow through the front. Performance increased alot, and the temp issues STAYED THE SAME.

Drove around for a while, and after reading some posts on this site, decided to try and drop the temp a bit.

Got the stock radiator reconditioned, (rodded and new end tanks) put a slightly bigger oil cooler core, checked all hoses i could see, they were all fine. Temp issues SAME.

Tried puting the thermo fan back in that i took out with the aircon, and wired it up through a switch, so i could control it. No change.

Recently put a nismo thermostat in, opens at 62.5 instead of the stock 76.5, took a little longer to come up too temp (as expected) and temp issues the same still. New radiator cap.

Ive tried removing the panel between the lights, no change.
Ive tried jacking the rear of the bonnet 2 inch to let some of the heat out, No change.

Cooling system has no leaks (that are apparent)

I've installed the sender for the aftermarket temp gauge just the the left of the stock senders.

My thoughts are that the stock radiator doesn't have the capacity to cool it, (due to it heating up under load) and/or a combination of having a aftermarket front bar and NO undertray. Im a bit puzzled cause the cars near stock, and still on stock boost.

We run motul chrono 15 50w
    Nulon coolant, and water wetter.

Sorry about the long post, but keen to hear your responses/suggesions
    Thanks
    Glen.

    Few things:-
    1. Get an undertray, it helps airflow.
    2. Have you checked calibration of guage?
    3. Test engine fan clutch - lot's of info on how if you search this forum.

    hpcoolahan back to boost ...yay

Question... what brand of aftermarket temp gauge, thought i had the same issues but when compared to the ECU's temp reading (datascan) my aftermarket gauge was at least 6 to 8 deg out, so check the accuracy first.
At 86deg at the ECU my Speco meter Gague reads 94.
    I need an accurate gauge.

    Just a thought

    Cheers

Yeah was thinking about the accuracy of the gauge, will try and get a info meter or similar, one that works off the ecu signals.

Will try to find a undertray, or knock one up myself.

    and i'll check the fan,

Thanks for the replys/ ideas guys :)

ill 2nd that. You'll see i have a simular thread. My gauge WAS accurate, but now seems out of whack compared to ECU readings.

I've still got some testing to do, but it seems so far as if, after spending $120 on a thermostat and coolent (yet to be fitted) my issue may all be down to my gauge giving a false reading

Someone in your area will be happy to help you with Datascan and see what's going on

How bad was the radiator prior to being cleaned ?
If it was that bad then you may posiably have a build up of gunk in the block

Which leads to my next question........

Did the block get a power flush whilst the radiator was out ?

If the radiator was cleaned and the block wasnt, then its a waste of time, the gunk in the block will make its way back into the radiator........
Any reason why you didnt fit an upgrade radiator ( 53mm job ) ?

Other than that.... I agree with K-zed.....

    Undertray:
by removing mine I gained ~10 degrees in temp.

    Engine fan:
May well be worn enough to be only functioning at 80% of its true capability.
