Since my supra spat an engine last week, I've decided to take it off the road and fast track the zed.

Bought the zed a few months back off a member here going overseas. 1989 2+2 targa manual. Pretty much what I've always wanted. Price was too good to resist.
It needs a bit of work to get it on the road. Body and interior are in surprisingly good condition. Needs new turbos and bit of ground clearance to get it on the road.
Thanks to Geoff I have the ground clearance sorted. I did a compression test last night and had some varied results ranging from 120 to 150psi. Currently this is my main concern. The car has 135k on the clock but who knows what the actual figure is.
To be on the safe side I'm thinking of pulling the engine apart and and chucking in a new set of piston rings as well as replacing the head gaskets and valve stem seals. I'd also be replacing timing belt and water pump while it's out.
Turbos will be some cheap ebay units from the US. Something just little bigger than stock so it doesn't become too laggy. Biggest challenge will be finding 5-bolt dumps that won't send me broke.

AMS dumps for the win IMO - good and cheap

    Do you have a link?
I have emailed dozens of ebay sellers and nobody makes a 5-bolt dump pipe. Some of them didn't even know what I was talking about.

Trying to do everything as cheaply as possible. Any input / ideas are welcome.
Eventually I'll build a big hp motor but for now I just need another car on the road.

    Here you go

Ross, rebuild kit here, forget the eagle rods the standard rods are forged anyway, coz will give you a price without them, or just part off the kit, pistons rings only, he is flexable, so anyway you'd like combine parts will be fine with him.

Agree with mike on the dumps. these are for 5 bolt only turbos

    Thanks mate.
Nah I was on my way to a wedding 500km from home. Pretty sure the fuel pump gave out causing insane detonation, which set off a chain reaction of destruction leaving my missus and I stranded in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere.

It was like a bad movie. Heavy rain thunder and lightening and 28 degrees. An experience I hope to never repeat again.

Once I got the car home (12 hours later), inspection revealed low compression on all cylinders, and a busted radiator. Canceled rego the next day and will build it into a monster when funds become available.

Since the supra is out of action I swapped the mags over (zed just had stock wheels). Ordered a pair of KKR380 turbos which should have more than enough flow for future upgrades :)

Not a fan of the smoked look, prefer the clear indicators, as it breaks it up a little. Will be changing the nose panel to let a bit more air in and hopefully an aftermarket front bumper. If I can find a matching rear apexi spring I'll drop the back a little.

KKR380's arrived today :) A lot bigger than I expected but should have plenty of potential.

Full gasket kit arrived with new valve stem seals, head gaskets, main seals, etc. As well as new water pump and timing chain kit. 135k on the odo, but at least this way I can be a little more relaxed about the engine being trouble free a little longer.
Dumps are on their way. Better get my arse into gear and start pulling this engine out.
