    Hey guys

Some things happened last night which i am worried about. I think i know the cause of them but would like some other input...

First things first, yesterday was the first day in about 3 months which i decided to re-attatch my 02's sensors, purely because i was curious would it increase the response a bit, it was disconnected for 2 reasons in the first place, firstly a trial to see if i can get a few extra km's out of her, and secondly after doing a consult/datascan test or whatever, it was found that i had one o2 which didn't function at all..

    Now...

    Last night 2 things happened

After about 1hr into the trip, my back rear end of the car started wobbling/vibrating!, it wasn't a bad vibration but nonetheless still noticable, it only happened when i was doing about 60km/hr, and i wasn't accelerating or decelerating, just keeping the speed constant, when the Z arrived in australia the first time there was a tailshaft problem, and that was replaced, surely it couldn't be another tailshaft problem could it??

Secondly, on another instance, when this vibration was happening, i decided to put the foot down on the gas a bit, and the car didn't move anywhere/didn't go faster!, saying this it only happened once. Could my clutch be on the way out??

So this morning i decided to unplugg the o2's again and see if the problem still persists :(

    Any help would be appreciated

    Re: Zed problems

I cant see a vibration being related to your 02 sensors.
When you put your foot on the gas did the engine rev up?
With a slipping clutch the engine goes faster but the car doesn't.
The vibration could come from varied places even down to a lost wheel weight. It might pay to speak to the person that did the tailshaft job now so if it is the problem then warranty work may be relevant.
    Good luck.

exactly what happened when one of my o2's died

Got a vibration when crusing at certain rpms/just on boost and as soon as i put my foot down nothing happened for about a second then it went

OK, a little lesson about O2s.......>>

When they die they cause the car to run rich, this causes the car to splutter and bog down slightly. The O2 sensors are read by the ecu when the is idling and also when it is travelling at a constant speed. By plugging your dead O2 back in and then driving at a constant speed of 60 you have probably just been dumping a lot of excess fuel causing the cylinders on that side to run badly. This was probably only noticable to you as a slight imbablance in the engine which would have been felt through the length of the drive train. The reason the car didn't accelerate away well when you put the foot down is probably because the three cylinders on the bank with the shot O2 were probably partially fouled with fuel from running over-rich.

What was the result of driving with the sensor unplugged again?

Cool, thanks for responses guys

I unplugged the O2's this morn and it seems to be running "normal" again, so until i get new O2's i might leave them unplugged, imo it seems to have less power, i.e. there is a greater fluctuation in the rev range when u accelerate, doesn't matter, all is good *touches wood* :D

    Cheers

    I agree Pete.

If O2 sensors are stuffed it has a marked impact on the motor when cruising (neither accelerating nor deceleratoring), it runs very "rough". Unplug the O2 sensors and the ECU doesn't get this false data and the motor runs much smoother.

The result though is that the fuel consumption is increased without the O2 data.

Anyway, that was my experience travelling to Gilgandra Easter before last (and I hadn't had the Zed long then, so had no idea why it was running so rough), but the Canberra mob (primarilarily ZCAR91 and IB) diagnosed this on the roadside, we disconnected both sensors, and the car ran fine. They remained disconnected for at least a month until I could replace the sensors (another story).

    cheers,

    Peter
