Zed problem

    Hey guys

    Obviously have a problem with the Z, tonight was driving home tonight and decided to put the foot down "pedal to metal" so to speak, and was going good until it hit like 4.5k revs or something (in second gear) and decided to stop dead!, its like it didn't want to go higher than that, just shook the car, obviously i let off the accelerator and went "normally", so took the way home cautiously, then near home went to see if it was a once off thing....Stopped, put it in first, then went for it again, hit like 4.5k rev's and just didn't want to go any higher and shook the car again, wth??, really worried now...:(

    Any help would be appreciated

    AFM is where I'd be looking

    get some electrical contact cleaner and clean the AFM its self, and afm plug and what not.

    man that sounds pretty weirdm id say have a look at your ecu, it could be possibe your ecu is chipped 4 a auto, thats my wild guess, afm usually cut off at 2500 thous revs, does sound like a electircal prob 2 me man. dont stress 2 much man

    I was under the impression that the auto chip can be used for manuals but not vice versa so that cant be it.

    yeah thats very true, auto ecu on a manual does work, if this is a new problemmo anythings possible,, could it be some dodgy wiring from all your new gauges dude?. anyway dont stress 2 much man, if u cant go past 4.5k or something it could be something simple like a blocked fuel filter or a dodgy plug

    I think its your engine and you need to swap it for a TT asap

    i have exactly the same problem, i thought it was my (mutsubishi) PTU on the way out, i have noticed something else though as well, the problem mentioned above is connected to another problem i am having (that may shed light on the cause) when i accelerate (not full boost, just in the positive preassure) the car surges to and fro like im tapping the accelerator softly/running out of petrol, and it is in perfect pattern, (not random sudden jerking like the engine is dieing and there is no coughing/backfiring).

    Now heres where its all connected, when i can take off smoothly, i get the above mentioned problem, when the car surges i can put my foot flat and she goes like a rocket (up to the 180kmh limiter, in seconds).
    hope this helps as i am not a mechanically minded guy at all.

    on a side note, with the surging, once you put your foot down further it stops surging.

    TT or NA?

    Does it rev out in neutral or is the problem occuring just under load?

    If the problem occurs under load I'd be looking for either a major air leak sucking in too much air leaning out the mixture to a point where it won't fire past 4500. This is going to be a massive split in one of your throttle body hoses or similar.

    Shit batch of fuel is another likely candidate, or water in the tank.

    If you own a TT and a stock ecu you may have one of the hose that run from the IC's to the boost solonoids come off causing a huge boost spike therefore hitting the boost/fuel cut.

    Maybe PTU...I don't think so, but theres the off-chance I'm wrong.

    Thnx guys for the advice

    I believe its almost back to normal now, due to the fact it was raining heavily that night i drove it (sorry i think i forgot to mention that), water may have entered the AFM (which was suggested by Scotty), so since its had a couple of days to dry out, and its running o.k. now, still not 100% but it doesn't stop all of a sudden when it hits the higher rev range anymore, at least i know if it happens again what it could be :)

    wa gonna ask, are u running a splash gauge since u have a new front bar? if your not dude u should get that sorted ey, well at least 4 when u get your TT

    yeh Simmo, im pretty sure i have a splash guard understand, althought it needed some "slight" modifying to make this front bar fit on decent *snip snip* :cool:
