My stock shocks are leaking and close to dead, so i am in the market for some new ones. Problem being, i wouldn't have a clue where to start or what to look for. I need ones with a comfortable ride, that will be good for cruising. That's basically it. I don't require it to be lowered and i will not be using it on tracks, it's just my daily so i need it to be good on the road and also be soft enough for going on long cruises on slightly bumpy country roads. Any help will be much appreciated
Tein super streets with EDFC, great soft ride for cruising, then firm enough for track work at the press of a button, to easy
Did any of you guys even read his post ??? IF you want ride comfort and good handling forget all the people saying coilovers or AGX's. Just swap the stock units for KYB Excel-G's. About $180 front and $180 rear. They are really nice and ride a fraction stiffer than stock. Get them from Bursons. http://www.kyb.com.au/product.htm?http://www.kyb.com.au/pages/33.htm
I've driven in/been in a few Zeds with the AGX's. Pretty much the same but the AGX's have adjustment and can go a LOT stiffer than the Excel G's if you like. If you just want a cruiser go the Excel's. If you want to play boy racer then get the AGX's or spend a bit more and get some coilovers.
$180 the pair. So $360 the full set. I would have put these back on my car instead of the agx's if I had known how much harder the agx's where. They where on the car ( excel-g's) when I bought em and they are NICE.
Thanks Tekky & Chrispy for the feedback. Leaning toward KYB's over BC coilovers, worried that the BC's may be a tad too harsh for general street use.
Hmm so you guys think the KYB AGX are a bit stiff hey? I reckon they are a bit soft for my kind of daily driving... I'm ordering myself some Racing Logics with 8kg/6kg, hopefully they stiffen up the ride a lot Rish I think you should hop in a few zeds with different suspension setups - that way you can get a good feel of what you would want?
excel Gs with eibachs sound like a really cushy combo. may be too soft for my liking though, so i may go with excel Gs with king springs. i like less body roll for the daily twisties lol maybe some sway bars are in order. although the roads are in such poor condition i reckon i'd kill stiffer shocks every year.
Price difference between the AGX and the Excel's? I thought the AGX's were around the $400 mark? V's Excel's at $180? Can anybody confirm the AGX rough pricing at all? It really looks like the Excel's are really top bang for your buck at only $180/pair! And Chrispy, i'm assuming from your earlier post that they work fine with lower, stiffer springs aswell hey? Just something i'm considering for my rears as my current Koni's are letting go.
AGX's are $838 for front & rears on Caz's website. http://www.cazracing.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=40&products_id=148
On the topic, what was the big rage back in the day with Bilstein shocks? Our blue zed has them, and they're really quiet firm. I haven't any ideas as to the brand and rating of the springs though....was there a spring combo that was common trade back then too, along with the Bilsteins? I ask, as eventually these will be needing to be replaced. As it is, the cushions are knackered...genuine nissan ones. We can hear/feel knocking/clunking when you hit the bumps... Any insights?
bilsteins a good shock in fact many manufacturers use them as a option in "sports packs" in various cars new cars......ie, RX-8 has regular mazda suspension, but RX-8 GT get bilsteins and recaro seats..........is there a handling difference, yes, but not a HUGE difference......
