Hey guys, Sunday night after the tech day my dad decided he would be nice and install a blue tooth hands free kit in my Z for me. Anyway, it worked nicely and all was good, but the next morning i tried to start my Z and no go . I can hear the little buzz from the fuel pump when the ignition first turns on, all the lights turn on and the started motor sounds like its trying its heart out to get the car started but still no go. the tacho doesnt move when trying to start the car so apparently that means that there is no spark? Any ideas on what this could be, my dad was fiddling around under the drivers footwell when installing the bluetooth kit so anything in there that could cause this? It could also just be a coincidence and have nothing to do with the bluetooth kit so any general suggestions are welcome too thanks for any help fellas! Brad.
test your battery for starters!! then go from there the bluetooth kit may have an on off function and drained it
alternator....but then you wouldnt get the 12.5V across the battery..... what about your imobaliser...if you have one...did your dad hook into the wiring??? is your car an auto?? is it in drive???
Check your PTU. Can cause what you are saying... It is possible that your dad mucked around with something he shouldn't, double check the wiring.
how do i check the PTU? and yeah he has checked the wiring he said it all seems ok, but there could be something he missed. I also do have an imobilizer but i pressed the key fob to make sure its disabled and doesn't make any difference.
Have a look in the tech section and the online service manual. It's a little involved. Check your error codes first though, also in the tech section.
K-ZED: Voltage while cranking is around 9.80-10.10V is this normal? and chrispy there are no error codes.
Therein lies a problem ECU will not start the engine @ sub 10v. Either recharge the battery or jump start. Try that first .., ok.
Next step would be to check your error codes either using the paper clip method, or with a lappie. Could well be that good intentions may have fried your ECU, in which case the laptop will not be able to connect.
thanks for the help mate, using the paper clip method I'm getting a code 55, all clear. i haven't got a lappie to connect but i will have another look around at things tomorrow.
A stuffed Coolant Temp Sensor, or CAS unit, will also stop the engine from firing. Mine did the same thing, starting and running great 1 day, next morning, nothing. Didn't even sound like it wanted to fire. Replaced CTS, and VROOM! All was well again.
PM me your address if you are in Bris metro somewhere, I might be able to shoot over and put a lappie on and see if anything stands out as being out of spec.
