Well my Z decided to stop yesterday and after towing it home I plugged in the laptop and datascan and got code 11(CAS). I have fiddled with the connections on the CAS with no luck. She turns over but will not start, when I put the key in and turn it to ON the lights come on the dash but I get the electrical noise I used to get on engaging the key happening on and off where I used to get it once. Any ideas? :help:

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    First thing to try

is inspect and clean the connectors coming from the CAS. if still having troubles could be a faulty CAS itself...

How common is it for the CAS to go kaput?

    Much too common, unfortunately.:(

Check you?re PTU with a Test Light and See if there is any voltage to all connections with ignition on.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Beg to differ, Lloyd!

My CAS failed a couple of years ago (just before the Coona '06 Zedfest (probably due to getting too much cleaning fluids inside.) Problem solved by the provision of a 2nd hand unit from Tekky, still going strong)).

As part of the solution, I checked with the local Nissan dealer (one of Melbourne's larger dealerships), and the spare parts manager told me he had NEVER sold a CAS for a 300ZX in 15 years (at $1100 and 3 weeks ex-Japan, I wasn't really surprised!).

BaseX, I'm not saying that it's NOT the CAS, but check other possiblilities . . . especially the PTU and associated wiring (most likely if you are still using a Series 1)

    PTU changed

OK, changed the PTU with a series II one from TTZ(cheers Simon!) but still no luck.
I am still getting the code 11 error.
The engine check light is flickering a bit too(not diagnostic mode), any ideas?

    If your

cas is dead and you can not find a good second hand unite, you could buy a new cas from czp for about $400oz delivered, nissan australia are thieves.

No matter how much begging you do Dougie, MY experience tells me that 5 CAS failures in the first 4 months of ownership(each one requiring my car to be towed back to the workshop) is definitely far too common for my liking.:p:rolleyes:

If I had a constant Code 11(CAS), I would be inclined to look closely at the CAS.
    Don't ask me why......I just would......that's just me, I guess........:eek::eek::):)

    Checked the CAS

Removed the CAS and turned it with IGN on, injectors fired so it seems OK.
Before I fork out $400 for a new CAS I want to be sure thats my problem. Connectors recleaned, new PTU, fuses checked but still nothing...:( Any more tests I can do with a multimeter?

You've killed 5 of them in 4 months?!? Sounds like a workshop issue rather than a CAS issue :p

    Datascan test

I logged the starting attempt with Datascan and the fuel pump shows off with the start signal on. An older log file(when it was last running) showed that the fuel pump came on with the start signal. So is it my fuel pump/circuit?

In that case definately try bypassing your FPCU (check the tech section one bit of wire reqd.)

Do you here your fuel pump prime when you turn the igntion on?

  18. BaseX

    BaseX The Z Factor

Yep, can here the fuel pump prime for about a second when I turn the key to IGN. Not sure how this is related to my original code 11?

    Possibly not connected

FP will prime only when pressure is low; ie: during repeated trial starts, FP may only prime at first attempt.

OK thanks K-zed that explains the datascan results then.
Back down the code 11 road again...
