    Hey guys how's it all going?? :)

    Got a problem with the handling of my Z recently..

    1) Braking at speeds over 80km/h, the steering wheel shakes
    left and right quite abit.
    2) Slight oil smell when driving, usually when taking off. No smoke
    at the back of the car.
    3) Sometimes driving on a straight road, I can slightly feel at times
    the rear suddenly slide by itself, usually again going in the 80km/h speeds.

    Anyone know what exactly are causing these issues??

    That sounds a bit scarey.......I'd take it straight in and have a professional look at it. Failed suspension components can easily cause a major accident.

    A number of possible causes including:
    Brake related-
    * buildup on discs
    * warped/damaged discs
    * uneven pad wear / partially siezed caliper
    Steering related-
    * wheel balance / tyre wear
    * worn front ball joints
    * worn suspension components
    Rear end-
    * worn ball joint / tie rod knuckle
    * worn suspension components

    DIY possible on all of above, get some local assistance to look over the Zed and find cause.

    have something vaguely similar in my Zed, been happening since I bought it... every single jolt comes through and turns the steering wheel - not much, but enough to always have to drive with both hands at decent (100+) speeds. figured it was just 20 year old suspension on a low car?

    definitely not sir.
    should be ultra smooth regardless of age.

    i roll chassis scrubbing and have none of the above symptoms.
    time you both had them checked out before an accident :)

    Vibration at 100kph+ speeds comes up on the forum quite a bit. Alot of people cure this by replacing the tailshaft center bearing.

    1)high speed braking, could be rotors warped (slightly maybe)
    2) could be a variety of things
    3) still got HICAS?? i know in 2 out of 3 zeds i had it was faulty and threw the back end out randomly while driving straight and know of several others who experienced the same thing.... therw HICAS in the bin and problem solved

    If you disconect the plug on the front steering rack for the rear steering (HICAS) you will know if its that, It will disangauge the rear steer, it happened on a mates R32 GTR and thats how we solved it, found out it was worn out ball joints.

    Agree totally.

    99% of all this claptrap about HICAS, can be traced back to poor maintenance on associated suspension components, NOT HICAS.

    In ten years of Z32 ownership, I have seen volumes of complaints on here about "the Demon HICAS", and yet, I have not seen one solitary case that could show conclusive evidence of actual malfunction(just heaps of mysterious handling woes that are assumed to be HICAS related).
    Any component on a vehicle as advanced and as intricate as a Z32, can conceivably fail, however, if there was any evidence of mass problems with such a component, cars would be denied registration until there was a mass recall by the manufacturers.
    Has this happened any where in the World? No it hasn't!

    People who remove HICAS when intending to race/drift the Z32, do so because they prefer not to have the HICAS doing what it was designed to do, NOT BECAUSE OF FAILURE but rather because of personal choice.

    i beleive your forgetting that these cars are 20 odd years old and things DO fail from age too...

    Things only fail on 20yr old cars, when regular routine maintenance/parts replacement is not carried out, as required.

    I agree, just take it to somewhere like pedders and get an inspection done, they know their stuff.

    Do you have after market rims? I rims on my xtrail, and it was doing the same things, I went to get a wheel alignment and was told that there is a spacer that goes around the hub for the after market rims to fit. Not a big thing, but when I put it on, damn it made a difference! Cant remember the technical term for it. It wasnt a spacer, it doesnt push the wheel out, it just makes it fit snug on the hub :)

    Hub rings its what they are called Stretch! Can cause those sort of symptoms if not fitted.

    Yakuza yours symtoms definately sound like something is warn in the suspenion, steering or brakes. Safety inspection at Pedders should suss out whats up.

    Thanks guys :) yeah they are aftermarket rims. But it's never
    done it before so I don't think it's that.. will definately take the Z
    to Pedders and get things sorted out ASAP!
