Z losing power at high speeds

What happens is at fairly high speeds, my car will just all of a sudden loose power and the revs drop. Its usually happens at around 5000RPM when accelerating fairly hard doing over 120km/h. I don't know whats causing it but there are no noises when it happens and if you take your foot of the accelerator and put it down again the revs will begin to climb again, although the same thing will happen again shortly. Just wondering what could be causing this?

    Thanks for any help :)

I assume that those speeds are reached on a race track? Your loss of power could be a
number of things, best thing to do is to have a dyno run and find out for certain.

Yeah $100 an hour on a Dyno, that's the best thing for sure! lol

Boost leak or possibly fuel delivery is my guess...

Alright thanks fellas I'll look into it :) It still accelerates fine in the 0-100 range though, strange.

    woulnt happen...

around the 180kph mark would it? 5k in 4th gear is about that from memory...could be you hitting your speed limiter?

    sounds like the

    speed limiter to me.

I seriously doubt the Z32 is speed limited to 120kmph! lol Rev limiter maybe? :p

I read that as doing somewhere over 120 and not admitting what speed it actually was. Speed limiter behaves like described:)

You guys are speed limited to 180 like the Japanese Domestic cars? Wow that sucks. I know none of mine are limited although in the U.S they are, how I came to that conclusion I'll leave out though! :p

im pretty sure the 200zr's are speed limited

    AndyMac Better than you

All JDM cars are speed limited to 180 stock. Aus delivered weren't from memory.

And so you do what I did and get the speed limiter removed when you get dyno tuned :D

As I said, and AndyMac aswell all JDM cars are limited to 180kmph to my knowledge. The 200zr is JDM only. Even my mates JDM 300ZX Z31 is speed limited to 180kmph aswell! But even then, it's cake to remove. On the Z31 you just cut a purple wire on the ecu by memory and it's gone, dunno about Z32's though but no doubt lots of people have done it.

You have to put in a new chip or use a speed limit defender.

Japanese Kai class cars are limited to 140kph

I keep forgetting that all TT's in Aus are imports hey? In that case of course they have a limiter, doh...

lol no not quite happening at 180km/h. More like around 130-150km/h, it doesn't seem to always happen at an exact speed either. I thought it might be the rev limiter too, but as i said its never even close to 7000rpm, more like 5000ish when it happens. Doing 140km/h in 4th isn't exactly pushing it to the rev limiter anyway i would have thought? it seems to happen in 3rd and 4th. probably 5th too but i haven't given it ago.

Maybe a dodgy speedo sender? Maybe your ECU is getting a weird signal and thinks that you are going past 180kph.

Has your ECU been chipped? Maybe someone stuffed up when trying to disable the limiter?

Sorry i just read this post, is the 300ZX a kai class car? lol sorry i don't know what that is. If so then that would make sense, because to me it does feels like some kind of electronic limiter.
