check this out, this is a quote by the Antilag.com administrator, TJ, in a very heated verbal fight with another guy about r33's vs r32's. i really like what he said here, keep in mind, that he himself is a 32 driver.

and with an attitude like that, the last on the forums I hope

"how ****ing dare you come here and tell us that our cars are ****? we are here to celebrate performance , not to bag people because they dont have cash like lindsay fox and your cocksucking uncle with his wonderful GTR. Id say my stock 89 ****ter would thrash your whale around a track, and with ease. the 89 rule allowed many people to embrace the joys of performance cars at a low cost, including you. This club is based around ppl, and alot of them own a 89 32, Cefiro , S13 etc. There is nothing wrong with these peoples car. Probobly better then half of your cashed up friends of friends who spend 50k on their car then pop it anyhow.

Its funny how people mention those track days, yet both the GTR's 32 and 33 get owned by John's 300zx. So the 300 is now god of the nissan scene?"

    hahahahaha, go TJ.

    Re Z God.

The most expensive car from any manufacturer is the flagship vehicle.

I know how much the Zed was in 89 but dont know the price of a GTR in 89.

Does anyone know. It would be good comaprison.

    I do...

Nissan Australia brought in 100 r32 GTRs and put a $110k price tag on 'em.

Strangely, most sat in the showrooms and didn't sell very well at all (despite their hype at the time).

The head Nissan dude at the time (something-Daphne) has been reluctant to consider the GTR for our market ever since.

Someone pls correct me if I am wrong...

and the 89 zed cost? im assuming n/a

You would have to compare the prices in Japan.

It is not really accurate to compare the Aus delivered NA to a limited release Aus delivered GTR.
It would be interesting to see how the prices in Japan actually compared at the time.

The release of the Mk IV supra was delayed because of the Z32 300ZX

The Mk IV was due to be released in 89 however the launch of the Z32 Toyota went back to the drawing board releasing a revised Mk III and designing a revised Mk IV to compete with the Z32. It took 4 years for them to develop something that would be competitive,

So when people start talking about how the Supra is a match (or more than a match) for the 300ZX just remember it was specifically designed to be just that.

As they say, `imitation is the greatest form of flattery'

    nice one. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

this is all really interesting. the RAC insurance site gives alot of info about cars when they were realeased, if i can recall, the N/A, brand new in 89 was going for about 90 to 100 k, and that was just the N/A. this is only from what i can remember, correct me if i'm wrong.

    Titan... True, however.....

In revised MK III form, the 1JZ-GTE (2.5litre) gave the 2litre class 500 horses without having to open the engine (perhaps top end)... My memory may be shot, but if you know of a VG-30DETT (3 litre) that has done 500HP on stock internals, please then prove me wrong.:D (JP?)

But then as time went on the 2JZ-GTE came out, (to "even up the playing field" for the 3 litre class)... once again, 500+ Horses and this can be done, even without top end... Once again, Toyota came out with a monster of a motor, has the VG-30DETT been as sucessful in the power figures? power to weight, they both aren't light, so then to me it would come down to outright power.

Don't get me wrong I love the Zeds but... Supra, if going for outright power, Inline 6 TT... would be my choice.

P.S. Just by chance I have a 1JZ MKIII Supra and Z32TT lined up, so, when we next go to the track I will PM you to inform you of the result. :p

The 1JZ was only a stop gap.

The JZA70 (2.5L 1JZ-GTE) was released in Japan in 1990 as well as the GA70 (2L 1G-GTE) but neither was released here. We only got the MA71 (7M-GTE).
There are numerous examples of VG30's running with over 500hp on stock internals and even up to 1200hp. In fact the land speed record for a production car is held by a VG30 powered 300ZX built by Jun in 1990. The 2JZ supra they built subsequent to it in the late nineties has yet to reach the same speed.

Both the VG30 and 2JZ are exceptional motors and both capable to huge power figures. My point was however that the 300ZX lifted the bar and helped drive the creation of the Mk IV Supra.
