Well, you probably guess, got pulled up this morning at 4:05AM cruising back from my mates place.... got told i was speeding when i wasnt but 4 coppas in a highway patrol...so i shut my mouth... got told my car was too low and i was driving with a bald space saver...

i feel i was lucky to only cop 2 fines but just wanted your view on 1 of them...

i didnt get done for speeding, lowered or rimz... space saver was put on tonight coz of a popped tyre...blew out the side :( but the space saver was bald from prev owner?

    anywayz..

1st fine was bald space saver $79 - ill cop that on the chin...

2nd fine, kinda controversial... My TV was out but i have it hooked up correctly so when the hand brake is up you cannot view DVD's ETC. but wen its down whilst driving, i am able to view my track list and time... no actual video.. according to stock vehicles with TVs - this is legal, but the coppa seemd to think that i should not be able to see anything if the handbrake is down...WTF?

im contemplating taking it to court as i dont have $238 for a fine...nor do i feel like losing any points.. What do you guyrs reckon...?? i no they woernt the worst cops as they did let me go for the defects but as for the TV - im not really wanting to lose points on my good reccord...

    Cheers

    WILL

I'll post the legsilation for you later...
It is quite ambigous, as it appears to be written around DVD players and not radio/DVD/CD/SATNAV players.

Had an issue myself late last year

Well my TV was installed by a dealer, and you can't watch/see anything unless the handbrake IS ON/UP. Unless you have made a typo in your post, your's would seem to be the opposite way around.
Sounds like the Cop was correct.:zlove:

So if you hook up a DVD player, a TV, a sat nav and a computer to a screen, when are you allowed to use what ?

Sat nav all the time ?

    Computer all the time ?

DVD player with handbrake on ?

    TV with handbrake on ?

Playing a video clip on the computer ??

    well... according to the coppa...

    Sat nav - yes
    computer - handbrake
    DVD player - handbrake
    TV - handbrake
    playing video - handbrake

this is how my tv was displayed...

as soon as i put in a DVD it says -release E-brake and you can only hear audio?

I would find out if speeding and defect notices have to be issued on the spot before going anywhere near a courthouse....

$238 seems like alot of money but remember if you lose the magistrate can up the fine, you have to pay court costs, and you still have to pay for your representation (assuming you don't represent yourself). Even if you win it will still take up at least half of your day so how much do you lose by not working?

Anyways good luck whichever way you decide to go

and thats how they win... because you vs the police = they win and you end up paying MORE

I reakon ur in the right as some in car systems come with an on screen dosplay for the track list, so it's the same bloody thing

But yeah, arguing that in court and coming out on top when your'e up against "the law" is the problem

You're a criminal now and should feel ashamed of yourself :p

lol you have a switch nexto your clock, exact same as the one that came installed into my facsia when i got the car from japan 4 years ago..
is yours functional? i ripped mine out and could see where the sensor used to be in the front bar (they just fibreglassed over it.. not real good either).

I think it is for the jap spec cars basicly there is a small arieal on the front bumper which goes up about 30cm to show you were the front of the car is so you dont drive into a wall/car.

It is actually a parking aerial that can be raised and lowered by the switch.

You're pretty lucky they didnt ping you for speeding since you're not supposed to exceed 80km on a spacer saver tyre in the first place...

    Ohh... I am.... lolz

i was doing 50 in a 50 zone... so that has nothing to do with it...???

im not really caring about the cash - coz that can easily be replaced with some overtime at work.... i just value my points...

you only get 7 points on ur NSW licence P2 (green P's) and i lost 2 points driving a manuaal with an auto licence about a yr and a half ago... now its 3 points for the TV showing... leaving me on 2 points...

ive never ben done speeding, red light, burnout, seat belts etc just cuts me down considering i take it easy on the road coz i value my license....

how cn it be justified that i lose 3 points for driving with a silly little screen displaying my music... i might has well been doing 25k's over... same points are lost.. and if i was speeding i prop would have past them before they got to the intersection :) lolz

i just think the police need to get their priorities right.... speeding and having a screen in the car should not be on the same level...even if i had a video playing....

    P.S. thanks for the highjacking :p :p

i think the whole thing is crap.....i didnt know that you cant have something playing while the car is moving, or can you if the screen is viewed by the rear passangers....coz i see alot of european cars with screens playing in the back...

just had to edit for simon :p

well what idiot watches tv when they are driving, its all for the passengers isnt it?

You don't get fined for the display in the steroe/mp3 player that show the title in a single line and takes 30 seconds to get through the full title, do you ?

i dont agree with GPS systems! ive had numerous cars cut me off and nearly hit me trying to do what the gps said instead of reading the road signs.

AND they can be placed on the windscreen or where the cd player is but guages cant. i know what i would look at more.
