Just Car offered me $3800 full comprehensive.. With an excess of over $2000 if anything were to go wrong.. ffs
try hbf mate.. my non turbo is insured for under $700 a year for a 19 yo with one previous accident (or maybe two) but they did pretty deal for me imo..
haha no love with hbf for turbo zeds mate.. been there tried that!. your best bet is third party or thirdparty fire and theft and put 2k into a bank account every year . as your z emergency fund
I more wonder why kids drive around in cars they cant insure ,seems the theory these days,is buy a car, then see if it can be insured (not aimed at you mate, just thinking aloud)
From someone who has seem (a little) of the inside of the insurance industry, this is pretty good advice. Get an ING account or similar so it can gather some interest too Also, you need to be pretty disciplined and keep it as crash repair/emergency money, not maintenence/mods money or it will be all gone when you actually need it.
considering the market price on zeds a good z is around 14 to 18 k ... 3 k a year.... for 5 years and u could have another Z rather than no money..! dont get me wrong insurance is a good thing but untill your 25 or over you can forget about comprehensive . thats my opinion i got quoted 3k with a 1500 excess from just cars and im 24 with no accidents and only a few speeding fines.... mention JAPANESE.. TURBO... MODIFIED and UNDER 25 haha good luck in getting a decent quote
guess im from the old school,i was brought up ,that if you cant insure the car,you cant afford that car ,and nothing has changed with that rule imho
yea thought of that but most people are cool with taking other people details as long as their car gets fixed.. assuming anything happens of course
yea i was definatly thinking about third party fire and theft.. $650.. and spend the rest on replacing my main oil seal haha
The problem is that you won't technically have a driving history (and hence, any chance of a lower premium after a couple of years at the wheel) if it's under your mum's name.
I totally agree...why pay so much to insure a car that has a relatively low market value. Im 27 with an NA import, mention import and half run, the other half want around $1500 and will only cover me for $7000.....yeah right like im going to go full comp in a hurry.....on my last car, a 2yr old VX commodore it was $350pa for full comp through AAMI rating 1 and that was covered for over $20,000 not a measly 7......ripoff artists....and then they try to get out of paying claims....a**holes. As soon as you say "Import" they go to town on you.
Ive got the same sort of deal except its in my dads name, i'm with the NRMA and if i crash then i have to pay an unlisted drivers excess or something..but im still covered, it works out cheaper than paying 4k a year.
simmos idea... yeah, its fine if you dont crash it within 5 years... if you even have it in 5 years... i think thats kinda stupid IMO 17 NA i started paying 1900 full comp now its 1300 2 years later with 600+300age excess with elders i mean come on! if other people can get insurance then your just not looking hard enough.. IMO yes, if you cant afford to maintain a car... including fuel, repairs, insurance.. then its too expensive for you and your living beyond your means... but those who 'hope' they dont crash... seriously... google Murphy's law... and dont post up when you get your car stolen or broken into crying that you had no insurance...
same thing as what ive done. under my parents name using their rating 1 with me as a 'secondary driver'. best i could get under my name was $2000, im now paying $700 for full comprehensive
