worked vb commodore 4 speed manual that does

120 in first gear? Is this sort of thing possible? I've never heard of a manual going so fast in first gear. This guy swears he owned it and used to cruise around in second gear most of the time.

That's a fair bit, but not entirely

unbelievable. Looking at the Holden parts bin, if I wanted to build a Commy that would do 120 kph in 1st, then I would head for the M21 gearbox which has a 2.54:1 first gear ratio, then sling a 2.6:1 diff ratio in it. After that, it's only engine revs and tyre diameter to play with. Assuming 215/65/15 tyres and a redline of 6,500 rpm, I think that falls out at about 120 kph.Did I win any money??

It's doable but there's not much point unless your racing on a track with very long straights.
