that'd be an alright chassis to build one of those diablo replica's on i recon...been lookin at them lately...could be a fun project. (not that owning a zed isn't a project enough)
rear engine Ha i thought owning a zed 32 was the best thing to a ferrari... but damn a rear engine VG30DETT would take the cake... the dash on that prototype is so 300 ish... azzurro zed 32
Re: rear engine isnt it mid engine? ie the engine sits infront of the rear axle instead of over it? also i thought of a logical reason why nissan prolly dropped the mid engine layout - it would be hard to make a 2+2 with the mid engine - and a very high percentage of 300zx's are 2+2...
Rear Engine The engine is sitting 'backwards' over the rear axle. Flywheel & clutch behind the driver's right ear probably transfer drive down and back through a transaxle. Could be a bit 'tail happy' a la Porsche.
more Zed prototype pics Thanks for a great piece of Z history. I saw this thread and posted the pics on www.zclub.net One of our gurus posted some equally "wow" pics - so in thanks for your thread, here are some of them: Entire thread is (if interested) here
The seat even has the hole in the bolster On the drivers side what is it with these japanese I would like know how they exit there car!!! Is this just a common fault with Japanese Cars
You mean, like this The next evolution of the design shows definite Z32 influences... roof-line, headlights, front bar ... Was planned to use the Infinti Q45 V8, Atessa 4WD and Super HICAS AWS
GOD i wish they made that.....would have been a classic supercar right now....so sleek and sexy and heaps of grunt to boot
WOW I have read lots about the history of Nissan and the fairlady/Z cars in particular... but this is the first I have heard of this prototype! Guess you learn something new every day! Its an amazing design for its time! I wish they went ahead with it, BUT who knows how it would have altered the course of history for Nissan... maybe there would never have been a Z32!!! Scary thought!
EPIC THREAD DIG FOR THE WIN yooo just saw a guest looking at it and opened it. wow, how have i never seen this car? wish nissan made it. kind of a z32/nsx hybrid..
I've seen this car in person. It is in storage at the Zama Storage Facility that I went to. If you are interested in the rest of the pics, you can CLICK HERE. While I was there, they gave us a CD with info on all the cars in the facility. I added the CD to my website. To read all the details about the car, CLICK HERE. Below you will see some of the pics I took of it while I was there.
It's actually a Z32/GT-R hybrid. The GT-R got the ATTESA system while the Z32 got the VG30DETT. Notice how the timing belt covers are metal? That is because those were the cast molds for our cars.
While I've seen this plenty of times, the picture posted earlier... ...is almost exactly what I'd like a 300zx to look like. I would definitely buy a kit that made a stock Zed look like that, as I still believe that a rear engine Zed IS a good idea. Sadly, no-one has been able to do it properly.
good luck trying to service this with all the people complaining about a zed engine bay, this is 2x as annoying and cramped. Gotta disagree there, all the covers on engine looks exactly like the CIMA VG30 and not Z32 VG30
Fail. Do some research. Left hand Drive is considered to be luxury in japan As Their Local Laws allow both left hand and right hand.
yeah cause all the foreign cars just export the cheap american model to japan instead of the RHD versions since they have lax laws. pretty stupid sentiment though, RHD is clearly more awesome. unless you drive auto in which case it makes no difference or if you're left handed
i meant body wise, not engine/tranny etc. if i was serious, it looks like a bunch of cars had a huge gang bang, and this thing plonked out. mr2(mid-mount) /nsx(sides) /200sx(tail-lights) /gt-r / 300zx
