Why are my brake pads uneven?

Changed my front pads today and found this:

The pad on the left is the inner most pad (closest engine) and the right one is the outer pad. The pic shows quite clearly that the inner pad still has good meat left on it and hasnt worn as much as the outer pad. This was found on both sides of the car. Always the inner pad having worn the less. Is this normal?? or do i have problems with my calipers?Cheers

 

Three possible reasons!

One the one closer to the engine i also closest to the brake fluid line i would assume that it would get more pressure than the outer ones.
 
Or the piston seals may be leaking or detiriorated on the outer side hence less pressure.
 
Another way is to say that the pistons closest to the engine have les flex as the mounting bolst are very close. The outer ones on the other hand, because of the flexing of the calliper ( the U shape ) may have less force and wear less.
Mine are doing the same front and back ones.

and the damned things squeak!!

been driving around today, and the new pads make more noise than a nasty prostitute. I did use some anti-squeal spray when I replaced the pads, but it doesnt seem to have done anything. So I have brand new pads and the whole street can hear me when I brake.. Wierd.Cheers

 

what pads are you using?

Probably takes a long time for bedding in. Just do a heavy deceleration several times to accelerate the process.

 

Using EBC Street Kevlar.......

and I've already done the whole bedding in process. Strange....Cheers

 

I used street kevlar too, no squeak.

Maybe you got a different batch, old posts indicate that EBC pads sometimes are different due to change in material, improvement, etc, even though the name is the same.Hmm... Might wanna keep an eye on this for my next EBC pads. Will get the greenstuff

It could be that the inner pistons arent pushing out as much and there is uneven presure in the caliper. Dunno why they wouldnt though. It suggests there is a problem of some description though. It might pay to look further into it.Either that, or you might not be placeing your foot on the absolute center of the pedal when your braking

Ive got the same pads.....

...had the same thing. It went away after a few weeks. They still squeak when they start getting really hot
