Why a zed?

Just interested to see the various reason's people buy a zed. For me it was love at first sight when I saw one on holidays with my parents when I was about 12. Can remember walking around it and saying that one day I will own one of these. Once I was old enough to drive and was financially able, reliability issues put me off and instead I stuck to toyota's sporty alternatives. Although I've always had the desire to own one. Now 18 years down the track the right one has shown up for the right price. I can't bare to let go of my current cars so I will drop the rego on one and use the zed in its place :)

Big fast coupes have always held an attraction for me. The zed is comparatively timeless in looks as well. They are a pleasure to drive when well maintained, and respond to mild upgrades well. The market severely undervalues them for what you pay vs what you get. I've often thought of moving on to another car, but kinda goes away once I go for a drive. They are definitely a car for mechanically minded folks. They are getting old now, and need attention that a newer car would not, but getting greased up regularly is part of the fun.

Big plus is the forum as well, much more than what you get with a lot of funded clubs, etc. Without it I would have moved on years ago.

Looks, power, handling, comfort ... the Zed has it all and 20 years on still turns heads :zlove:

Find a good one and you'll be very happy. :D

    +1 for the forums ect.

If it wasn't for sites like this i would have left my car at the scrap heap.

Its fairly rewarding to work on, and straight foward for the most part.
Just about all the info you would ever need is on this and a few other sites.

    Its fun to modify.
    You get fairly reasonable gains.

The car itself isnt bad. Has a few minor problems but so does everything.
Mainly its the cost of rebuilding the engine.
But that in its self isnt really that bad. Mostly the same as other 6 cylinder engines. Its just paying the money for quality work, some people seen to do things on the cheap and pay twice.

For the engineering excellence, the looks, comfort, scalability.

A complete package. Already a brillant platform on which to built on to your hearts/wallets content.

The ultimate TOY if you want to go nuts with power.

The ultimate posser if all you want is bling to blow eye balls out of sockets.

I now look at some older Ferraris and Cringe. They have aged terribly. Both inside and out, so yesteryear.

I loved the 'Ferrari ran away with a Porsche' look the Z32.

    • I loved the 'Ferrari ran away with a Porsche' look of the Z32.
    • It is a big kit car to modify
    • people honestly don't know how old it is and often confuse it with a more exotic brand.

    1) looks
    2) Speed
    3) Price
    4) Handling is a bonus i discovered later.

I have to add to what others have said though, without the forum this car would be IMPOSSIBLE to own now for people with little money for maintenance, and no previous mechanical know how.

I dont do as much myself as many on here, but even what I have done is all thanks to the forum. + saves paying a mech to troubleshoot also even if you can't do the final fix yourself.

I have the same kind of story as ross79 except i usto dream about them aswell and see them everywhere on the road. Everytime i would see one on the road i would say "look its my car". Then 8 years later an asian woman hit me from behind and my car at the time (ford fairmont ghia 98 tickford) was finished. I later got told by my parents that the car was insured for 12k and that my parents would get me pretty much any car i wanted for the money. So i told them i wanted a 300zx and they were abit hesitant at first but my brother persuaded them. So i got her , the sexiest nissan car ever made ;D

now my answer would be its not just a car its a work of art and will always be ahead of its time.

    Zeds . . .

Well, there I am, fillied up the bike with juice in North Terrace and just about to go and pay and 'IT' pulls onto the apron to fill up. OK, like a dork I just stand there and check the car out while he's filling it up. Just when its full, I duck in to pay for my petrol so I can be out the front and watch/listen to it drive off. Magic. I decide, of course, I've got to get me one of those! A couple of years later I succeed, a two year old '72 model zed. I just haven't moved on, still driving zeds. Just had a R31 while I needed 4 doors (kids, you know!).

    Awesome story man :D

I still lust after the Datsun's even with the release of the 370z.
