Who thinks they are a guru? The fuel pressure regulator has two fuel lines one from the fuel tank line and the other enters the intake manifold. Where abouts does it connect to the intake manifold (location) The manual doesnt show it? Whos a guru?
You might be looking at the dampner. The FPR going in series after the injectors before the fuel line returns to the tank. The line goes from the tank - pump - filter - dampner - injectors - regulator - tank. It goes into the fuel rails just after the dampner inbetween two intake runners.
No Definately looking at the Fuel Regulator One end runs off into I think the fuel line down past the batteries The other end runs along the fuel rail - it is the bottom pipe Mine just ends into air at the end of the rail. Strange thing is - so does my mates. The manual says it goes to the intake manifold but doesnt show where or even a pic of it going in? The FPR sits in bewteen the rear manifolds on the passenger side, theres no mistaking it Cheers
Oh no Yes - I can see on the manual where it comes up on the fuel tube on the right hand side of injector 4 but in the car I cannot see it . Would I have to take off the manifold to see it? OMG - here we go My FPR has three lines running out of it!! One to fuel tank line One to fuel tube near injector 4 One goes to the fuel rail (bottom line - is only about 4 inches long) it then stops and goes into pure air?? - oh where does this one go manual lists two lines not three? Cheers[TIS]
Hmm - you tell me? lol Hmm - it does looks like the diameter of a vacuum line - as is smaller than fuel line Does that run into the FPR too?
Yep sure does Look for a blanked off spigot around the balance tube/return fuel line. That's where the FPR vac hose should connect to
I have a feeling you are the guru of all things fuel lines and Z's after looking at the manual It does say it goes to the vacuum gallery for that line (bottom one from the FPR) Just having a hard time seeing where it goes
Dont have a quick photo to show you but trace the fuel line hard pipes back to where they bolt to the plenum on the top passenger side and look for a hard thin pipe. Thats where the FPR should connect to. Yours may have been deleted at some stage. The vac line is required to tell the FPR when to regulate the fuel flow. As far as 'guru', I discount that. Just familiarity with connecting up all the vac lines comes with doing lots of plenum pulls etc... Damn, these are the times I wish I had my zed to go and take a pic for you.
Some dodgy performance mechanics will bypass the vac line on the FPR to try and get max fuel pressure all the time, clearly this is dumb so hook the smallest hose back up to the balance pipe and see if it makes a difference. I believe unplugged the vac line will cause rich running condition all the way up until full boost is achieved, and if they've used it to try and get more fuel at higher than 12psi boost it'll still be lean.
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6407/thezgurutest.jpg Ok heres is a pic of what im talking about - it goes to the vacuum?
so it goes from the FPR along the bottom - pictured in green - then the metal fuel rail pipe stops at the end where it joins to a rubber vacuum hose that goes to the......................... Driving me bonkers - I'll take pic tommorow and post lol - found another vacuum hose off - OMG - post that strange one too Cheers Cmon gurus[TIS]
Help - I'm tangled up in my vacuum hose under the bonnet Its rubber hose everyway - does that make it kinky if you love your 300ZX
OK. Lets be sure here I'd say someone has disconnected your PRVR system which regulates fuel pressure for hot starts. Its this system that the FPR vac hose connects to. This is the fuel pressure regulator The thin spigot at the top of the pic is the vac hose. When installed the FPR is upside down. Here is a diagram which will show you where the FPR vac hose goes. Ignore the non-turbo title as they are the same TT and NA. Look for the FPR labelled 22670M. See the RHS third thin line immediately above part number 17522EA? Its looks a bit longer than the two thicker fuel lines on the left. That hard line connects from the FPR vac line and normally connects to the PRVR. What you can do is join it to a vacuum spigot somewhere on the plenum using a tee piece if required.
Yeh mate I think your on the money mate! The other line I found off is on the PRVR so this might be the connection after all I think p5yk3r might be right - disconnected to try and get max fuel pressure all the time?? But he would be right about it being an idiot move as well I'll get some pics and post soon I am indebted to the guru of vacuum lines! I owes you dude!
Some Photos finally Heres some photos - http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/525/dsc00805a.jpg http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/2497/dsc00806by.jpg http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3867/dsc00814sk.jpg ok two lines disconnected - are they related cheers
If you disconnect your fpr and hit boost you will have an epic fail. your fpr works on a 1:1 ratio meaning for every psi you will get an extra pound in fuel pressure. so if you leave it disconnected and hit boost your going to be running very lean.
yeh - so they are the missing link? yeh so your confirming the two hoses in the photos are supposed to be connected?
