Nah, I am not too serious about it yet, not ideal timing for me to be buying a project car and I would want to see it myself anyway. Thanks for the offer though, it's appreciated.
I had this issue with my bash cars rollcage Biggest issues .... & I quote.... "deminishes the crumple zone areas within the bodies cabin area" & " non removable front bars cause issues for emergency crews when extracting persons traped with a vehicle equiped with roll cages" & " removable front bars which have NOT been removed often break loose from their restraint and cause major injuries in minor accidents" I didnt think much of the BS... untill I saw some pics of a car that had a full cage fitted and was involved in an accident, the rigidity of the car was so great that the occupants took the full force of the impact...... amazing things them crumple zones ! The other bad one I've seen was on a HZ Holden with a simple hoop and rear bars. The main hoop had foot plates that were bolted to the floor pan ( the plates were about 250mm square and sandwiched the floorpan ). The rollover was hard and the foot plates simply punched through the floorpan then the 50 odd kilogram barwork just bounced around inside the cab, eventually killing the driver. There's rollcages ..... and then there's rollcages..... the problem is the "attatchment method" of those cages to the body, & if you read the intricate details of the legislation, you have to bolt them directly to the chassis, which is something most cars today seem to lack ! Kingy
OK, that's it. I am right on the edge of RBPing everyone on this thread for making me want to buy this thing. Thanks for the offer though, it is most appreciated. I am keeping an eye on the auction and if it stays cheap I will give it some more thought. In the short term if that happens I might take you up on the offer but only as far as my driveway for the moment, Mt Gambier can wait if it does end up there.
n00b question: Slicktops did come out in a TT from the factory didn't they? It was just the convertible that was NA only, wasn't it? The engine bay picture in this ad seems to have no HICAS (which I know is commonly removed so that is not the best indicator) but has a TT front bar so may well have been a TT from the factory. Front bars are not hard to change too and may have swapped it over to allow intercoolers for a turbo engine. The reason I ask is I am wondering what sort of diff is likely to be in it.
Thought as much. That means wiring loom and engine management would be an issue if I were to continue with my idea of an NA racecar too.
wiring should be fine, will need an NA ecu though. I'm using my NA loom with the TT engine when i convert
I would probably end up with some form of after market engine management anyway so I guess that is less of an issue. There is still the diff though. Part of me is thinking I don't want it because I want to build my car up step by step from a road car to a track car and another part wants it because it is close to what I would likely end up doing myself and a good price. Any idea how much I am likely to spend replacing the diff? I figure the engine and gearbox would cost me at least $2000 once I have bought them, bought tools to put them in and held a few big barbecues to get help installing them.
NA diff and subframe anywhere about 400 and then you might as well do new bushes while you're down there so depending on if you do that yourself or at a shop about 200 plus
