Whirrrrring noise in power-steering

    Is this a common problem? It usually happens when the car is stationary or moving slow, but is reasonably audible.

    What do you's think could be wrong, fluid is fine.

    Noise may be belt or p/s pump on it's way out...

    Engine OFF, check belt for wear.

    Engine running, use a 'stethoscope' or piece of dowel, even a long screwdriver - hold one end on p/s pump & put yr ear to the other - if bearing or impeller is worn you'll hear excessive noise.
