Where's the best place to buy a new detonation sensor and sub harness for a 89 z32 TT? and rough cost?

Otherwise would it be ok if i got one of a wrecking 300?

For a single sensor and harness? Probably Nissan or check out www.conceptzperformance.com

Actual all of the 90s knock sensors for the Nissans were made by Renault, it is interesting to note that Volvo use the same knock sensors up until 2010.
They are pretty common. The only thing that varies is the price.

Is there much of a diffence between the stock one and aftermarket one?

    Ha there ya go.

Do you know who the ebay ones are made by? Only reason I'm asking is cause it's such a PITA to change! You'd hate to fit a cheap chinese made one only to have it fail prematurely.

Eric you bypassed my det sensor when i got my car 15months ago but i read lately that it should be temporary as a tt may knocking at low revs undetected and burn holes in the top of the pistons, is this true? and how long would it take with round town driving?
    Cheers

For the effort involved in bypassing it I'm sure the sensor could be replaced if is faulty anyway -correct?

Pic below shows knock sensors (two in this setup, standard setup uses only one) installed on the block. I know the knock sensor can be accessed from the rear with gearbox out, otherwise it looks like a heads off type job?
