    Hey guys,

my Z which I bought a few months ago has some type of sports mufflers on it.
The rest of the exhaust all seems to be stock standard apart from the mufflers.
Can anyone recommend a place in Vic where I can buy standard mufflers for my 2+2?

    Cheers,

    John

U will probably need to get a pair off a wreck or something mate. I know a wreckers in the western suburbs who might have some z wrecks u could try. Otherwise might need to source from yahoo auctions or nissan brand new. Pm me if u need help dude?

If it's too loud go to any exhaust shop and they can replace the current ones with twin outlet mufflers quite cheaply which can be quieter than stock if needed. $300 all up including labour should easily cover it.

Much more economical option than going for used mufflers or OEM nissan ones which will likely be $500 ea or something silly like that.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
Mike, I did go to my local exhaust guy and he said that I'd have to find the mufflers as his supplier doesn't carry them. I'll go back and ask him about what you suggest.

I don't want to go quieter than the stock mufflers. I think the stock mufflers sound great. That nice balance between engine and exhaust. What I have now is a very low rumble. It sounds nice when idling, but gets very loud in the cabin when cruising and going up hills.

Mike, is there an after market muffler that you know of that compares to the stock muffler? Or is there a particular size or type that I should be looking for?

If you like the sound of the stock muffler I guess OEM is the only way to go.

No exhaust place can guarantee the aftermarket replacement will sound the same. I would have thought dual tip aren't terribly rare and they could supply something similar.

    Maybe try another exhaust shop?

I wouldn't pay for stock mufflers, years ago I threw mine away since no one wanted them. I'm sure there's some out there people are getting rid of, perhaps post in the wanted section.

Thanks Mike. No seems crazy to pay that much for OEM mufflers. I'll keep an eye out for second hand and also call another muffler place.
Thanks again for all your help.

    Cheers,

    John

As you've mentioned cruising I'd hazard a guess that what you're experiencing is drone. This is usually fixed with a good quality centre muffler/merge pipe. I carry these ones http://www.rgsperformance.com/product/magnaflow-mufflerx-pipe/ they are all good quality with lifetime warranty.

Going back to a new oem mild steel muffled is (to my way of thinking) and expensive step backwards in terms of performance and aesthetics.
