Where should this go?

This is from my spare parts car for the manual conversion which is a bit rough under the bonnet as you can see. The engine is not running as smoothly as it was and I am wondering if this hose mights be the cause. What is its function?

I can't see clearly where mine is finishing(because my garage light just died. Jesus, when things go wrong they just keep going, don't they?).:(:(

On my car that hose end goes on a spigot located about midway between where yours is now, and that white stripe on the nearby hose(toward the M/Cyl), down below the plenum.

    Sorry I can't be more precise Barry.:eek::eek::zlove:

isnt that the vac hose from one of the stock boost control solenoids?

DinoZ Talks sh#t for a living.

Follow the yellow dots back. The two solenoids there are for AIV & EGR. Depending on what's been disconnected as to how much can be removed or plugged. Will have a closer look in the morning.

    All looks wrong

Possibly the boost solenoid hose? marked in yellow? Therefore vac hose connected to balance pipe wrong?

    Thanks everyone...

The two pipes are factory marked with a pink dot and a white dot - my problem is the white dot. I would have thought my manual would then tell me what they are. Unfortunately it doesn't speak in dots. :(

The other problem I have is that my hard copy manual is a US one, and lots of engine room things are transposed for the LHD version, making it unreliable for this.

However, after an hour orr so of trolling I have come to this. The unit in question has two solenoids attached - that I am now inclined to believe are Wastegate Valve Control Solenoid Valve & EGR - and is usually bolted to a bracket on the firewall. In this case, it is floating loose in the engine bay, so clearly someone has been playing with this. Rob may well be right in his observations that there could be more going on here.

Looking at page EF & EC- 18 & 19 shows only the EGR solenoid has 3 connecting pipes. So I think my stray hose belongs to the wastegate solenoid, which I guess would connect down where where Chili was indicating.

What do you think? ... and what are the consequences of having the wastegate solenoid disconnected?

Barry, that hose connects to a small metal pipe behind the plenum and goes to the EGR actuator valve.

The only two solenoids that are in that location is for AIV and EGR control. Wastegate control solenoids are located on a metal bracket that braces the upper plenum to the cylinder heads (one each side) and they are connected to the EFI harness.

Karl, your post is a great surprise.

...SOO GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK ON THE FORUM.

What an adventure you have had! Now to put some miles (kms) between you and it, and make it a distant (bad) memory.

.as for the EGR, I noticed this extract in the Tech sections while I was playing detective...

Catastrophic engine failure eh... sounds nasty.

for example: "failure to securely fasten interior door handle could lead to catastrophic engine failure". True story.

    Found the slippery little sucker...

..the spigot was just where Chili said it was, but it was hiding in that engine mess. Now I see that the hose is supposed to go under the master cylinder not over it which added to the confusion.

And I have now conclusively determined it is EGR.

Can't wait to get that engine and gearbox out of that car, but in the interim I have to start it up to move it about the place from time to time. I guess I can now do that without risking catastrophic engine failure. :)
