Post some pics when you are ready. It is hard to find a good TT in WA.

    gahh agreed!/
been lookign for around 6 months,, then this popped up.
should post some picks up after i hopefully buy.
just was interested in typical problems that i should look out for. (given that it was a relatively cheap car, and has no (apparant) overheating problems)

take your time when purchasing, due to imports we are plagued with absolute shit boxes in our market which has also brought the price down.

yes the car may have shiny rims and dark tint, but when the motor fails you won't look so good on the side of the road. if you can buy a nice clean car up front, do a bit of maintenance, then you'll have the money to mod away knowing your car runs properly.
also put it out there to see if anyone can do an inspection with you - i'd suggest someone who has owned one of these cars for at least a year and know's their way around them.

    Good luck! ;)

A 19yr old sports car that gets very hot in the engine bay, has 90,000 perishable parts. Individually these aren't expensive, but sometimes getting to them is a drama....and drama's can be expensive.

So look at wiring, connectors, hoses, leaks, etc. Have a look in the tech section for to learn how to use a paper clip to check the ECU for error codes. Look for exhaust smoke too. A leaking turbo seal is an expensive fix..

I'd get a pre-purchase inspection done by someone very familiar with 300zx.

    learned lessons.
    at least check
    1. Compression test
    2. Ecutalk error check
    3. idle
    4. 2k service evidence with receipt
    5. temperature if overheating
    6. possible coolant and engine oil leak

    thanks,
so your saying not to even bother looking at imported zeds?
or just stating that importing them is lowering the prices?

take each car on its own merit
Plenty of good aus spec and j spec's around, you just have to inspect and choose wisely
If buying one on here ,you can check all old posts out from the owner and get a good idea if he is a dickhead owner or an enthusiast owner,go the latter

no - would still obviously be looking at imports as that's the only way your going to get a turbo zed.
more so the fact that when they started importing, the market was flooded and while some good one's came through, so did a lot of crappy condition one's which had been thrashed and beaten - effectively becoming 'throw away' cars.
with a flooded market the price comes down pretty quickly.
