I'm a bit confused when it comes to getting larger wheels. If you go up in wheel sizing, obviously your tyre size (sidewall height) needs to go down to keep the rolling circumference the same. Then you can only go so far before it changes anyway, cause you need to have some rubber on the tyres. If you get bigger mags must you lower the car to keep it looking right? Or can you go a certain amount bigger before it matters? The car looks the 'right' height now and I don't wipe out the lip too much, and I want to keep it like that, but I don't want it to look like a 4wd. Can I go to 17" without lowering? how about 18"? or am I kidding myself and need to plan to dump it hard for any bigger wheels? thanks sam
If you maintain the "rolling diameter" (circumference) of the wheels, then there will be NO change in the ride height of the car, that is precisely why you go down in aspect ratio of the tyres, when going up in rim diameter.
Here are some pics for you... 1st: 17" wheels with standard suspension. 2nd: 17" wheels with lowered suspension. 3rd: 19" wheels with lowered suspension.
Love the wheels in pic 3 Jono Was that photo taken on the way up Mt Wellington by any chance? I love Tasmania:thumbsup::thumbsup: Cliff
Thanks. No, that pic was taken on a hill very near to Mt Wellington. Very similar veiw, well picked! This pic on the other hand was taken from Mt Wellington.
yeh that's what i mean - ride height doesn't change but the distance between the edge of the tyre and the wheel arch does so it looks wrong. i presume this means I have to lower.
No one can tell you what to do... It is you car & you money after all! My advice would be, get the wheels your after (the bigger the better ). If your not happy with the way the car sits, then lower the ride height
Re: No one can tell you what to do... So what is the biggest tyre size you can fit on the back with scraping? 275/30 285/30 or 295/30 on 18's I'm asking. I have 18*9.5 with 265's but I'm wondering if I can go bigger. Rich
