And I lost 200-300 mil of coolant too. Nothing serious but it looks like somebody lost control in there. ;)

Seriously, Some water is dripping down the middle front of the engine. Could this be the bottom radiator hose? The fan simply throw up the coolant onto the intake hose? And why is it silver in color?

The white stuff, is calcium I'd say. Left behind once water has

evaporated. Are you running coolant or water in your radiator?

There are two hoses that connect into each head - it is hard to see

them looking down on the engine but they have a tendancy of splitting - I think they get pretty hot in there - then the radiator fan blasts the water sideways onto everything - that's my guess anyway. Cheers. Clive.

    Looks exactly...

..as my engine bay did 2 weeks ago!

Lower rad hose developed a small split and pissed coolant/water out...didn't notice til I got to work. The liquid had dried to look exactly like the white/silver stuff in your pic.

Yeah, I can see small leak under the

Lower radiator hose. Did you end up getting a new one or just fix the old one?

I can't see where the split it, but seems to be losing only very little coolant so far, but I'll get it fix very soon.

    So that's Calcium eh.

    Got a newie..

from Simon at TTZ. Nice aluminium one with rubber elbows

Keep a close eye on the split...hate to hear about a cooked donk :(

    What about custom one?

I'm thinking of cutting up the split part and replace it with an exhaust pipe. Midas makes them, so pretty sure it should work? How would the water react with the pipe? I think it would be Mild Steel.

What about Stainless or Ally -

at least that way you won't add in any new corrosion problems. Cheers, Dean.

Did the same thing last weekend.....

New aluminium lower radiator pipe with new elbows aswell. Had a slight leak aswell so no better time than just before the hot summer to fix it. Also added new coolant, its a cheap fix compared to an engine rebuild.

    Max:thumbsup:

    :( It's not the hose...

It's the WATER PUMP the guy at Midas said. This is not good. Do repco sell them? I'm in NZ so can't go to UAS or TTzed.

Probably the water pump leaks slowly when the engine is not running, when it's running, the water level stays. Maybe the pressure had to do with it? Loss of pressure allows the water to drip out. There's also silver marks on the oil pan and oil filter too, even some on the gearbox :(. Seems like the fan has been throwing the water all over the place now.

But, would this be a good time to install UD pulley too? Saves labour while this is done. I know the guy so can get good labour price.

Just be careful of aftermarket pumps....>>

IF you can't get a genuine water pump then make sure the aftermarket one has a pressed metal impellor, not a cast one.

Is it possible to fix the exisiting one?

It's only leaking when It's not driven. Leaving it overnight drains about half litre from radiator.

    Water pumps

If it is the water pump that has gone it will probably be because of the mechanical seal inside. So that water going past the seal doesn't go into the bearing there is a hole for the water to come out of on the outside of the pump body. You can see this hole and see if there are any traces of water coming out of it. The best time to look is at night with a pencil like fluoro light that you can poke around with - it is amazing what you can see at night in your engine bay with a small light. It still could be leaking from one of the two hoses that go into the heads - they are in the same area. Cheers, Clive.

Oh and don't even bother about thinking of fixing your pump!

    Go to Bursons

The pump they have at Bursons looks identical to the OEM one, and doesnt have a cast impeller like the ones that failed for Wykked.

They are Japanese and cost $84.

They are a bit of a bastard to fit without ripping half of the front of the engine off.

What will have happened is that the water will be coming from the bleed hole in the top of the pump. That's there to allow any water that seeps past the bearing seal to escape. As the seal wears, coolant comes pissing out just like that.

Just fix it properly do the pump and thermostat. Replace the coolant with something good. The fact its white doesnt say much for your existing coolant.

    Just wondering...

...alot of people have had alot of major issues with non oem or non genuine water pumps. For the sake of a few extra $$$ wouldn't you get a oem genuine Nissan knowing it'll work and you won't toast your very very very expensive VG30?

To me, that makes more sense!

Above question isn't aimed at Tektrader69 but just in general!

    Installing water pump

Would the radiator have to come out?

And Just in case it's not the water pump or the radiator hose, what could it be? It's in the middle front of the car. The leak drips straight down from the front of the engine.
