What's this black box for?

This black box sits near the base of the ebrake. I found that one of the two wires that come out from the back of the box, was cut (or it may have been loose before and I had simply tugged it off while trying to run other wires under the carpet). It used to be connected to another end that goes under the passenger carpet and into the floor.

Can anyone tell me what the black box (and wire I'm holding) is for?

    Cheers.

i thought the exact same for mine man...i just call it a go fast bit!!

but sounds right what pexzed and k-zed are on about. As there is metal insulating the wires to prevent melting of the wires if it is connected to the exhauxst.
