How are we all... My car is a Non Turbo 300Zx and i wanna do something to it to make it run harder... What do people recommend? Something that doesnt cost a ridiculos amount of money.. People have told me - Chip - Air Filter.. (although some people have told me it made no difference to there NA, maybe they got a shit one?) -Already have a 2 1/4" cat back exhaust.. which didnt make that much difference! Anyway what mod and what brand would be great aswell as rough price!!!! CheerZ, Maciek
Re: Pod air filter IMO. The pod filter made a bigger difference than the Underdrive pulley. I am taking the UD pulley off mine. I dont like it at all.
In all honestly...gotta agree After doing my homework, I finally decided not to waste ridiculous amounts of money on a NA because quite frankly...your not going to get the power or speed you may be looking for. Instead, I'm saving the money and keeping her running nice. Later in the year when I will hopefully have a better job at work and better insurance credentials I'm simply going to buy a TT. If you want power without going down the $10,000 conversion path I would recommend this. Paul
You still get respectable power out of an NA. I agree get an aftermarket air filter i went with a unifliter from TTZ and always recommend it. After that i would probably say and what i am most likely to do is headers, high flow cats, ECU remap. Have fun with it! :zlove:
Also Iridium spark plugs, adjustable exhaust cam gears, then there is extrusion honing, Apexi super AFC or Microtech or other computers, or custom chip tune. If going as far as internals and porting then might consider twin turbo option if the car is real nice or sell and get a tt.
Bah! Those mods cost heaps. I'd go with stickers, neons and those latest spinning chrome hub caps :LOL: *puts flameproof suit on*
Unfortunately, Maciek, with an NA (I have one too) to get significant power increase (40-50rwKw) you have to spend heap big bucks... pod filter, headers, high-flow cats, cats-back exhaust mods, port-n-polish, extrusion-hone plenum, aftermarket ECU chip, etc, etc, etc, and still not have anywhere near the power of a stock TT. The overall cost would be about the same as buying and installing a TT motor. Just enjoy your NA for what it is... probably one of the BEST cruisers ever built. Quarter-mile demon it is not!
ohhh i fully agree, if i wanted power id get a TT.. just wanted to give her a bit more kick but yehhh i never thought of doing mayjor internals and stuff like that.. By the sounds of it ill more than probibly just change the air filter!! WHATS THE BEST VALUE FOR MONEY AIF FILTER OUT THERE, AND WHAT BRANDS ARE GOOD?
Also needs to be said Its not all about power. Its also about torque. You can spend big $$$ to achieve close power results to a stock TT zed, but you still wouldn't come close to a turboed zeds torque. Especially if he spent the same amount of money for mods as you did
No-one has mentioned K&N air filters?? Whats going on, wont they fit?, are they crap?, from what i've been told they are the best on the market..
I have just put a K&N pod on mine >> The first day it seemed to actually make things worse, i think this was because the computer had to adjust the a/f ratios with all that extra oxygen now on tap. The second day after it was installed the car did noticably have more power. Mine is TT btw
I didn't like K&N at all...but I'm sure that they have 20 different types of filters and I think I got a shitty one. My mate used two of the same ones on his GTR and got the same results. I will now stick with Blitz I think....lazyzed uses the same filter as well. Paul
i would say a pod air filter. it gives you a little more power and reduces petrol consumption. i got a cheap one from america with hard pipes. the brand is BOMZ racing. it seems to do the job.
I bought my filter within 24 hours of buying the car A Blitz SUS stainless steel air filter. Noticable power increase. Not the best filter of crap, but meh!:zlove: I am seriously considering my options as far as TT conversion/buying a TT. Hell, I even considered a V8 swap! Maybe when I land a better job, I will consider it more seriously. Until then, I will keep the beast in servicable condition. Cheers Rob
