Hey guys my Z is now all prepped and ready for paint, just picked up the acrylic candy paint today.

So basically as the titles states above whats the best way to go about making a temporary spray booth ?

For starters I have a large steel tube frame welded together and a 7M wide 30M long roll of plastic as well as lots of zip ties and gaffer tape :p

My main question is how do I go about extraction fans for the over spray dust and other nasties aswell as filters for the fans ?

Has anyone sprayed in a sealed up booth before with no fans ? any good ?

    Cheers

Ventilation is a must have... Iv dont it before in a sealed room (out of plastic) with no ventilation = heaps of spray dust and i got really drunk from the chemicals in the air i was breathing ( very stupid/dangerouse). A cheapy way would be like 4 toilet fans blowing down and 4-6 fans exhausting the air out... U can use sponge foam before the fans that pull the air in to filter the air so no bugs/dust get it... This will work well for a backyard job, also wet the floor before spraying...

    acrylic candy, really?

if its not 2 pack and you are doing it at home then i wouldnt even bother with a makeshift booth. just nick the dust and shit out when its all done.

Its probably going to look like shit anyway(no offence) and acrylic is step backward so id be going with minimal effort

twin bathroom fans mounted high up and blowing OUT of the "booth"
    or
a single pedelstool fan, again high up and blowing out

(reason for high positioning ---- to extract the dust from ABOVE the car that WILL fall onto your nice sticky paint job)

old 20lit drums make awsome and elcheapo filters
(use 2 drums minimum and have them aim for under the car, & wet down the floor down before painting)
(reason for low mounting position ---- so the filtered air goes under the car then disperses out and up and into the high mount fan)
    ;)

1/ cut the top n bottom of the drums out
2/ get the 'wool' from an aircon service specialist or use the wool from aircon ducting
3/ tape the sheet of wool over each end of the 20lit drum
    4/ install drum "filter"

    paint
& dont forget ya breathing mask

    :D

2pak without filtered air and without a mask = la la land / brain damage / posiable death of weaklings ......

Hey thanks heaps for the helpful advise, just one thing I wasn't sure about what you said which I have highlighted. Did you mean have 2 fans blowing out from the roof and another 2 blowing out from underneath the car ??

    Thanks heaps

    my bad........

two fans blowing out ........ no filters needed on the fans

the drums are the filters, no fans in the drums

the fans exhaust the air....... the drum filters only filter the air thats being drawn in from the exhaust fans

    make sense ???
