What's missing here?

    Heya
Had a chance to have a more detailed look at the aftermath of the break-in.
Where the scums took out the head unit, they took my stereo brackets as well, leaving the DIN pocket behind and breaking the ECUTalk case.

But I was wondering...there seems to be 2 broken 'chunks' missing out of the sides of the hole where the fascia sits. Can't quite remember, but what goes there? Did they just rip the deck out and break any tabs that the brackets screw into? Or does the bracket screw into the bottom 2 holes and the 2 on the side that are still intact?

Pic here...the broken chunks are circled in green...

It looks so much neater back there with none of the audio cables mess :-/

This weekend...hopefully tear out all the audio cables remaining and replace all the damaged parts..and new nose panel.

There's a plastic bar that runs along there between the "chunks". The "chunks" also hold screw holder things.

Bad news: That stuff is all a part of the dash

You could refashion it from perspex and an epoxy resion or fibreglass, but you would probably have to use another dash for reference.

yea that little bar bit was flimsy enough as it is :( so hopefully if u fashion another one itl be durable enough...

those little screw things arent the most durable things either.

    good luck :)

What screws into the bar? Is it the bit just above the top DIN space that's usually covered by the thin trim part?

In that case there might be a chance the bar is still attached to the stereo fascia, just superglue it back in I guess...
Otherwise maybe get a thin aluminium or steel tube and bracket it into place, drill holes in appropriate places and presto! Racey stereo fascia with 2 DIN pockets. Going to just use a pair of portable speakers for music in the Z from now on hah

Actually.....I don't think I ever had that bar, don't remember it from memory. Will find out soon enough

This is what it should look like. I had a similar breakin some time ago, but was lucky that no structural damage was done.

You can see the cross bar mentioned above, and the metal tabs which take the screws.
The square holes top and bottom also take those metal tabs.
I think the only way you are going to fix that is to source a replacement dash (wreckers?).
Also, note the glass fragments on the floor from the busted window. I'm still finding them 5 years later.

    Thanks for that pic.
I have a feeling it's either never had the bar since my ownership or it's still attached to the fascia when it was ripped out, because it'd be a bit odd for them to steal the broken plastic piece...and I didn't see it in or around the car.
    So it's either:
    a) It will survive without the bar
    b) just glue the bar back on.

At least they didn't steal your cottun bud sticks.
And yeah the glass sucks, they just chucked the broken window onto the back seat, and there are the stupid beads of glass everywhere, might take the seats out and give it a good vacuum.

Thanks for the help. See how it all goes from here...

Here is the lump of concrete they busted the window with - on the corner of the seat next to the center console...

The "cotton-buds" are the remains of a box of pop-rivets I had bought from Bunnings on the way to work.

This is the way I found the car when I got to it after a night-shift.

I have to say here that the local police didn't seem particularly interested when I reported it.

On the plus side, I took the opportunity to fit some guages into the hole, but still haven't put back a stereo.

Your thieves left a pretty big mess.
In my car half the door cards are ripped to bits where they just tore off the speaker pods and tweeters. The local police here arent interested either, I should put up a bounty for the culprits..
But in your current pic that's pretty much what I want to go for, no stereo and some gauges in the pocket, although I still like to have the boost gauge at eye level.

Enough time during a tech day to swap the dash?

Seeing as it's SHOW & TELL... This is how I found my car after parking my Z in a busy part of the city.

Again, cops weren't very interested. I was lucky that the alarm stopped them from attempting to steal my audio equipment. They stolen everything from my glovebox (CD's etc..), centre console and other loose possessions in the car.

I too want to do the same as you, red32. I have no desire for a stereo anymore.
