    Guys,

Long time no see. Been out of the Zed scene for about 12 months. Back to forwards interstate.

I'm planning on some major work to the Zed (watch this space...). I just need to know what year my engine was made.

The engine was imported from Japan and dropped into a NA Aus Spec 300zx so I don't know the year of the engine itself.

    The engine number is VG30118523Y

    Cheers.

Cliff .. welcome back ... you have been missed ... !!!!

something rings a bell that you may not be able to establish the year of manufacture from an engine number.

Baz is correct. You can't work out the date from the engine number.

Maybe take a few photos of the engine, certains bits are from differebt years.

Make sure to focus on TPS, balance tube, plenum markings...

Ahhhhh. Good question. I have the chance to buy a half cut of a 99 model with all the good bits already on. Includes the gearbox. It was from a rear end accident so everything upfront should be pretty good.

I don't know much about my current engine so I'm considering whether I replace it or rebuild it.

Can't buy parts for the rebuild yet as I don't know whether the current engine has oversize pistons etc. It has to be stripped and inspected first. So many questions.

All good. I'll work it out. Thanks to everybody for their advice.

You don't need to know year of manufacture when rebuilding/modifying an engine

Welcome back mate. Does your existing engine have issues?
Or are you just looking for an excuse to spend some of the disgusting piles of money you make

In a tax deductable way of course ;)
