So ive been parting my car at a friends. Pulled off everything I figured I can sell. Interior trim, carpets, engine, gearbox, driveshaft exhaust.

Remaining on the car is steering wheel, suspension, brakes, wheels, subframe, diff, stereing rack, fuse box, loom, front windscreen, rear quarter windows, ABS.

I am away for 2 weeks then have to dispose of the car from their yard.
Wondering what the heck i should do with it, or how a wreckers works?

They have a long narrow driveway, a truck or similar could not get down there. So id have to roll it out onto the street, park it next to someones house, quickly take off the wheels and brakes and steering wheel when scrap metal is on the way, and hope the neighbours dont have a whinge about my car on bricks outside their house :p

Also is any of this stuff I left out worth selling? Would anyone buy it? I dont have plentiful storage so dont want for example a subframe on my front lawn for 12 months...

How does a wrecker/scrap metal work?

I do a search on the internet, book one, they come with a truck and a crane and just lift up the shell take it away for me? Does it cost anything? And does it have to be out on a street that can fit a big truck?

I rang my local salvage yard when I disposed of my 260z and they turned up with a forklift and dumped it onto their carrier, if had known I would have removed all the suspension, I thought it would need to be rolling. so give them a call and and ask if it needs to be rolling

There are quite a few operators that will just turn up with a crane on the back of a flat truck and just lift it straight on. I usually strip it completely, every nut and bolt lol, then just use a hand trolley and a jack to dump it on the nature strip ready to be picked up. Onesteel collected my last one.

There are so many cars being parted out, it's a case of supply outweighs demand generally.
Whatever you keep very few people will be interested in.
As soon as you throw it away, within a week someone will want it!
The scrap metal dealers will come & take it away for free.
Obviously they won't take it away on a 6x4 box trailer, so you have to provide access for them to load the wreck.
Ask them how much room will they require when you make a booking.

    Thanks guys.
Forklift would be perfect. Crane on a truck would not.
I might do exactly that, call around see what room they need. Then strip to the level required. A forklift could come all the way down hte skinny driveway to where it sits. Thatd be perfect.

Id probably just take the wheels brakes and suspension off if I could. The rest can go.

Genuine MOMO. I bought it second hand for 300 which I admit was overpriced :p
Id try sell for 200 if youre interested at that price.

once i remove wheels, brakes, suspension, how much would it likely weigh?

With axles, steering rack, subframe, diff still in. Light enough for four guys to carry 50m down the driveway? maybe without the diff..

I might be interested in the suspension, how much you want for it?

Doubtful, the subframe and diff probably weigh 200-300kg on it's own.

Once the heavy stuff is removed, a couple of hand trolleys like you see out front of SCA, one at the back and one at the front, with a third person just to balance it, would do the job.

They should pay you anywhere up to $200 for the wreck. All cars I've had picked up I've been paid for.

Really? Can you post up some details please. I've never been able to find anyone willing to pay. Then again it could be due to mine normally being completely stripped of everything except the glass lol.

You should totally buy my lightweight aluminium 2+2 tailshaft and NA diff. The best mod to do to a TT imo ;)

I called one of the guys with a flat bed that come and wrap a chain around the roof thru the windows to pick it up...

Plenty of them around. They'll give you more than a wreckers any day, and it'll be cash.

Worst case they remove it for free.
