Back pressure - A job for the mythbusters From all the info i could find, 1 purpose of replacing the exhaust system is to reduce back pressure and allow better flow of the exhaust gases. An engine is basically an air pump so the less restriction (less back pressure) on the exhaust the more air will and hence more power
that A/F ratio looks messy, I wouldn't spend money on a new exhaust, I woul d just get an apexi safc or a greddy emanage and tune it to see what the results are. A 2" exhaust is PLENTY for a N/A making that much power.
Where can i search for these devices. I have no idea how they all work or what they do. Could something like a unichip do the job? How much are theyand where sould i get one. Also i dont like the idea of having a digital device visible in the cabin, some of you like them i hate them.
SAFC aka super air flow converter Getting your hands on the latest model is ezi, they are sold everywhere. Ebay for about $450+ and they look great. The model I mentioned are now all second hand, but are ezi to find as many HP owners have updated. I had one that that I got from Just Japs in Sydney, cost me $100, and only just sold it to Wokburner. You can download the wire diagram from Apexi, very ezi to fit. Basically they control your fuel/air ratio at set rpm ranges, 800 2400 4000 5600 and 7200 rpm with the turn of a dial + or -. As your A/F's are all a bit messy, this will give you better economy and a better burn. You can stick it under the passenger footwell or above your left knee, maybe the glove box.
Is this what i should be looking for? perhaps? apexi afc easy to install? or should I just get a gararge to do it on a dyno?
That is the one! Just get them to do it as it needs to be tuned on the dyno anyhow. Also if you don't like the look of it, just hide it behind the dash or something (where the stereo sits) so that you can access it anytime with ease.
that's the newer model This SAFC does alot more than just your A/F ratios. Has the ability to map your fuel at 250rpm increments, has a cool looking blue screen and graphics. Yes you will need an experienced tuner to set it up correctly.
I have a question that still confuses me.... I'm after a serious answer, I'm not being a smartass paul I'm just really curious.. Anyway, just wondering why a 2 inch exhaust is fine for an NA, when Nissan put a 2.25 inch exhaust on the NA as stock?? I understand what you're saying paul, but what was Nissans reason for putting on a 2.25 inch exhaust if 2 inch is fine? Cheers
