    G'day,
just became a member of this forum and already found so much useful info. but still unsure on a few things.
    1) What should i pay for a 1990 TT 2 or 4 seater auto or manual. swaying more towards auto cos i won't be tempted to drive it as hard. i live in W.A. if that helps.
    2) is it hard to get servicing for these cars in W.A.
    3) Some people have called them 'throw away' cars, wot do you think about this? do they last long, reliable etc.
    cheers.
pretty much i'm not looking to buy one until around later this year. still scouring, i went to some jap import place in vic park today. i love them, but the ones i saw seemed a bit overpriced $16,000.
    any help/info greatly appreciated.

    Throw away?

I think not ... someone's having you on.At or near 15 years old, a Z32 drives better, performs better, and looks better than just about any other late make & model on the road!Up to 20k would be about right for a good 2+2 TT; around 15k for a 2 seater. You may find cheaper but with higher km's and dubious service history.Welcome to the forum ... a WA member will help with more info.Cheers, Rob.:-Z

    throw away  (longish)

hardly!.the cars are one of the more dificult to work on so amongst the younger cround that love to modify, the zed cop a fair ear bashing as most dont have a clue how to work on them. the cars reliability is directly linked to the previous owners treatment of the car. being a sports car a higher number have had a hard life compaired to your regular fords and holdens.
even for those who say they dont like to drive hard slip them into a zed , their whole driving habits change ;)
having said that there are many NA's and even turbos out there that have reached or gone byond 200,000 k's with limited problems.a big word of caution, once you own one the cars it can easily be come an obsession haunting your dreams, some members wives/girfriends feel they have been left and replaced with the zed. im sure most members will agree ;):-Z

best advice is to get the car checked over well there is a check list here on this site for things to look for. in the event of a problem members here will jump to your aid with help full advice. much like an extended family.happy zed hunting!

To reiterate what Rob has said

Soon after driving back Sunday night from Gilgandra I hopped in to a brand new XR6 n/a for a spin. This was not a test to see which car was the more powerful as the TT Zed would be a clear winner against the n/a ford, but to compare the feel of each car. I first drove the XR6 for a quick spin around the block then hoped into the Zed so the owner could experience my car as he had never been in it before.

I could not believe the difference between the two it's was like chalk and cheese. While driving the XR6 the ride height was the first thing I noticed, it felt like a 4 wheel drive, handling was ordinary, and the manual gearbox felt really cheap. I can't explain it but there was not one aspect of the XR6 that I preferred over the Zed. Perhaps the paint colour?

To avoid offending the guy I had to come up with some kind of complement so I told him it was nice driving a car that was quiet for a change and I also told him the headlights actually lit up the road in front of you unlike the Zed. The ford was very very ordinary, I could not get out of that car quick enough.

I know you probably think I'm being biased but I can assure you this is not the case. It's possible that some people might prefer the Ford but that would never be the case with me.
I've come to realize the one problem I'll be confronted with if I ever have to sell the zed and that is what car to replace it with. I expect I will need to spend over 100K to get another car that will provide the same feel/performance/features/looks as the zed does.

    IB ?????

And to back that up 40+ zeds ...

to Gilgandra and back and the only mechanical problem was a split heater hose.Definitely agree $100+k needed to replace it with new.

    I had the same experience

I drove a brand new XR6 a few weekend ago at my mates wedding. Gave her a bit of stick around a few corners (egged on by the groomsmen) and was very disappointed. It lacked the feel of being in a sports car (well the XR series are the sports class for Ford), cornering felt unbalanced and I agree totally with Z-ster in that it felt like I was sitting in a 4WD. Time to drive the kids to school and do the shopping in this car! It had nice blue dials...but then so does my Zed. We're just spoilt I guess. The Zeds make us car snobs :-Z I also swapped cars with my mate's Monaro CV8. The V8 sounded nice when giving the car a bit but it was too stock Commodore inside (and out). Needless to say he was very impressed by my Zed and it took a bit to get it back off of him. Ho could have bought 3 for the same price!

    To import or not

Gday allI too am new to Aus300ZX. I am also in Perth. There seems to be a few of us here =) I currently drive a 1987 Mazda RX-7 turbo. It's running a 1991 series 5 engine, turbo etc. Nice and quick. However the coolant seals are on their way out, coolant is leaking into the rear rotor and it is slowly rusting the engine from the inside out. Obviously I don't want this car anymore(even though it breaks my heart to say so)For the past few months I've been doing some research on my new car. And time and time again I've come back to a twin turbo 300ZX.Nothing else seems to have anywhere near the same mix of style, power and potential as this car for the price.So...a twin turbo Zed it is for me =) I have also done quite a bit of research into importing my own car. There are a few companies here in Perth that do this and on the face of it, it would seem to be the ideal method of getting exactly the spec I want with low kms.Does anybody have any experience in doing this?
