I had two options when I got my licence, hand me down 200kw xr8 (which I planned to supercharge) which I was using already or sell the hand me down and get something different. My old man asked if I had seen a 300zx, I hadn't but did some research and liked it. Looked for ages. The first one I looked at I bought. When I got there is had a huge rear wing and stickers all over the windows and twin 4 inch tips. I loved it. It might have also been the fact the owner was an actual jet pilot and did a massive power slide across 4 lanes on the test drive, don't judge I was 20.

Always been into cars. I remember when I was about 10 I saw this awesome car. I thought it was a new lamborghini. Then I saw the badge and the z32 became my second favourite car. When i first got my license I used to drool on the windows at the local jap car shop but couldnt afford one. A few years later, 2004, my then girlfriend (now wife) turned me away from a GTiR and into a 25th z32. A few years later I sadly sold it (stupid!). We used to have a moments silence everytime we drove past where we handed the keys over! Then in 2012 the exact same car came back up for sale. And the wife made me buy it again. Is it fate? :zlove:

What got me hook on the 300zx, is I had a BMW 318is (with a custom 2 tone paint) and wanted something more sporty or with more room, that would get up hills with out slugging up them (Tafe at the gong) and I could take to the shops and not worry about someone keying my car or smashing it, so I started to look at cars, mostly the Ford XR6 AU MKII or III and the BF XR6 and my mother said to me why not get a 300zx, supra or skyline. I didn't want a supra or skyline since I see so many of them all the time. I had a look at the 300zx and at first I didn't mind them but the XR6 was still my first pick, kept looking at XR6's after XR6's and I was getting sick of driving to look at them, then I look at a 300zx and fell in love with the whole car, the handling, looks of it in person, the interior and everything. So I got the first 300zx I seen... Down side is I cant take it to the shops :( I care more about someone hitting it in the car park or keying it, then I ever did with my BMW (my 300zx is just black)

So now I have a car I will rarely take to the shops and only if I 100% have to, that is also smaller then the "5" seat BMW I had. But I don't think ill ever get rid of Betty (my 300ZX) :zlove:

    And that's my story :)

Was looking through an import car website with a mate.

I pointed to a 300zx and said "wow bet those are expensive"

"Na" he replied. "could get one landed for about 10k. "

    "really? They fast?"

"not much on the street will touch the twin turbo"

And that was were it began.

Always loved the Z's and owned previous older Z's as a result

Love the shape and style, the fact it's a Targa roof with four seats and two doors with a race proven motor.

Porsche 911 (1970's) / Camaro (1980s) / and Trans Am Firebird (1970's) are the style of cars I like - but simply put the Z offers more for the same deal / performance and price

The modern versions of all of these have gone to shit in style and design (this includes the modern Z's)

My Dream is still an LS powered TT 300ZX - but that's the future!
    Z owner forever!

I wanted a new car and was pretty keen on a supra. Was looking at YouTube videos of them and stumbled on to a 300zx video. I was hooked. Watched some more about the tech involved and how the car was made and I new this was the car I wanted. I went to look at one and as soon as I saw it round the corner I new I was leaving with that car. It's been over 3 years since that day and even tho there's been times when I've just wanted to set the **** on fire, I still can't park it and not look back at it as I walk away.

  11. My pop had a 280zx. It was a beautiful car, finished in a bronze orange with a beige interior. He imported his 280zx from Japan in 1983. He was in love with his car. I remeber distinctly, even though I was only about 3 years old, him washing it on weekends for hours and cruising around Coolum in it with my mum and nan.

In 1995, he sold it to my mum as she desperately needed a car. My mum drove it from 1995-1998, which she then gave to the wreckers as she thought she wouldn't be able to sell it *sigh*

One of my dad's friends had a beautiful 1993 silver TT back in 2001. It was stunning. Completely original, no modifications. He would occasionally pick me up and take me for a cruise. It was stunning. The acceleration, the smoothness, the luxury. He unfortunately wrote it off a couple of years later. I still have very vivid memories of cruising around Templestowe.

I have an obsession with the 90's. 90's music, 90's television shows, and especially 90's cars. When it was time for myself to get a performance car, there were many options. I new I wanted a touring car. Something nice and big, with a big engine, in an auto, but also naturally aspirated.

The inevitable choice was between the 300zx vs the Subaru SVX. I considered a couple of other cars, the mark III and IV Supra, the Mitsubishi GTO, and the R32 Skyline type M. Due to the reputation of the Supra and Skyline, insurance was pretty stiff especially since I am on my P's. $5000 insurance with JustCar for a second car is quite steep.

Insurance was available for both the Z and the SVX for <$1000 with a regular insurer (in my case, GIO).

Both have about the same size engine, with the same sort of power output, both are GT cars, and are both quintessential 90's, with sharp styling and performance to match. However, the SVX was AWD and was just that little more '90s in my eyes, with the half height windows, sloped wedge nose, and rear wing not in line with the rear pillar. The only issues is, only 249 units were brought into Australia, making the car incredibly scarce.

I had one lined up in NSW, with a back up in QLD, but the NSW one sold before I could get to it. The QLD turned out to have been written off previously. There were no others left on Carsales for a couple of months. I scowered forums and even considered importing. The 300zx started catching my eye again as there was so many available, with much more parts and much less reported issues, and extremely sharp pricing. I sat on the net for a couple of nights researching the car further, as well as the Z lineage. I began to change my mind.

About a year ago to this day, I was going through some old photo albums, where I came across some picture of my pop with his 280zx. Backstory, my pop passed away a 3 years ago from cancer. His death was rather sudden, only in the space of a couple of months, and was about 6 months after my nan passed away. Like the Z lineage, I wanted to continue on his lineage with his love the the Z.

I was looking around for quite a while, trying to find the perfect Z for me. Like I said, it needed to be auto and NA. I found a great looking silver '89 model in Moe (which is still listed on Carsales btw). The pictures make it look immaculate, and the work that had been done to it was quite extensive. Me and a mate went out to check it out, to find that the exhaust had been swapped for cannons, the seats had been ripped out (to be used in their shed as a couch) and replaced by some nasty old Bride racing seats. There was garbage bags and empty beer cans. There were burn holes in the center console, and the front bumper had gashes a couple of inches deep as the car was stupidly low. They were and still are, asking for $8k. LOL zero chance.

I checked out a yellow '89 in Narre Warren. It's a bad sign when you rock up to a car inspection, and there is 5 cars parked on the lawn. The car was in poor condition. The paint was faded to the point it was nearly white. The leather interior had been butchered. The rear hatch had been scrapped of everything including all the carpet and plastics. The car barely ran. They were asking $4.5k. He asked me straight out whether I wanted it for parts, or whether I was going to "try" and get it on the road. I didn't even both test driving. I did really want it to be the one as it was yellow, and yellow was the colour I had my mind set on, but perhaps my next one will be.

I eventually found what is now my Z in St Albans. It was fairly well maintained, though quite high k's. The seller was offering a decent price, and it was a '95. I have pumped a bit of money into it, and it's on its way to being the car I want it to be, something that would do my pop proud.
