Engine is coming out to fix rear seal oil leak and I was thinking it might be worth doing a few maintenance or preventative things while the engine is out.In terms of performance, I was thinking maybe an UD pulley, but wasn't sure what else I should get done.Any ideas?

I'd replace all the hard to get to bits ....

all coolant hoses at the back of the motor, DET sensor etc .... I'm sure there are others who can suggest other bits ... mat cost you a bit extra now, but not a significant cost overall.cheers,Peter

I shoulda noted that it was a TT aswell..What would I be looking at for getting the coolant hoses & DET sensor done?

bit over the top removing the engine just

to change the rear seal. If you drop the gearbox you can replace the rear seal without removing the engine.

Why are you removing the engine???

The rear main seal can be fixed with engine in, only the gearbox has to be dropped.Cheers

Im almost about to pull the engine and

its a nightmare! :`( I have never seen an installation like the TT in my life. The only easy job was taking the bonnett off.:s Luig:cool:

    If your pulling the engine....

....you might as well replace as much as possible. Not sure if you can get at any of the hoses under the plenum but I would be replacing: the clutch and getting the pressure plate/flywheel machined, new throw out bearing, new clutch fork pivot ball. Front and rear main seals, rear coolant hoses, maybe pull the sump pan off and reseal with the special silicon sealant if the seal looks dodgey(can only be done with the engine out so a good one). You could probably have the turbo seals and related plumbing seen to (I dont own a tt so cant help as much there....yet ;) ) Basically any rubber hose you can get at(but cant normally) would be worth while changing. Also have the engine mounts inspected, and have the exhaust manifold gaskits checked for leaks and have the bolts re-torqued.

    the guys at UAS said..

When the car was inspected, the guys at UAS said I needed to pull the engine to fix it?So I can do it by just dropping the gear box??
