Must admit watching the slot car drag it out for the last time with the beefy 407kw engine was a treat. Things got a little hairy now and then between sideways burnouts, wheel spins in every gear change including 5th right at the line and oil slip'n'slide runs which seemed to have everyone holding their breath...but seeing that 10.7sec 139mph clock flash at the end of the run for a 300zx, well it was worth the frozen back sides  Thanks to Caz and Usher for keeping us company and pointing out the crazy weirdo's on boosted Hayabusa's pulling 9 sec 1/4 mile times... Can't wait to see the new Z when she's out of the box Adrian
10.7secs.... that must be just about the best time yet for an Aussie 300ZX so far. Well done John! JP's previous posted best time was 10.89secs @ 131mph. Love that car!:zlove::zlove::zlove:
Pics Couple of burnout pics of the slot car last night. almost a 10.6, fried clutch put an end to it. Making big horsepower will do it.
Don't forget the Sammut Brothers ... Ran a best in the mid 7's before being destroyed in a top end rollover 4 or 5 years ago. However, this was done with a full chassis car, and the motor used was the straight 6 from a Nissan GTR, and then given some serious mods including nitrous. Rumour had it that the same guy that built Victor Bray's 57 was doing a new 300ZX for the Sammuts, but I have no idea whether the rumour was truth or bulltish, and if it was truth, where the project is up to.
Yip getting there 10.709 139.67mph cold night still had circuit set up as did not have time to change springs or even raise the car or adjust camber and wheel align as only raced on Sunday at E Creek circuit and alternator failed with we changed but my guys have been so busy with customers cars that we did not have time to do what we wanted. Traction was our biggest problem this time as the car had HEAPS of power. First two runs I smoke four gears and even grabbed fifth and went over the line spinning the wheels. With a warmer night and better set up, and with the power it makes it should do a low 10. Yes clutch finally let go although as testimony to our clutch just one of our single plate clutches which has done heaps of track days with a bit over 1300 kg clamp load and hanging on to 456.6rwkw was too much for it. Now we have new ones with 1550kg clamp load. Only managed 6 runs as a big oil down and lots of cars and the last two runs I had clutch slipping bad. Yes Ports I heard you were coming and hitting the circuits a bit lately, shame you missed the big one. The motor is sold and out today as planned and on the back of a Ute with one of our engine brackets we make to transport motors and heading up to Newcastle with the new owner. Also got to weight the slot car for the first time and 1310kg with three quarter of a tank of fuel and with out me in it. This was about what I thought it would be.
Yes 9's That should be easy mid to maybe low 9's actually and still mainly a cicuit car. Give me until mid next year.
John, have you only been able to strip 160 KG out of the slot car?? The weight reduction program needs to move forward in the next version.
Awesome Only .33 of a MPH off having to fit a parachute to the rear of it. 456.6rwkw,611.8rwhp awesome.
No A lot more than that but added lots such as full cage around 45kg, bigger oil cooler remote big oil filter, remote in line thermostat, big FMIC, bigger turbo's, oil accumulator, lots of -10 braided line, two 044 fuel pumps, -8 and -6 braided fuel lines, fuel cooler, big pressure reg, even little things like a stack of mechanical gauges and E Boost, large belly pan, -12 boost balance pipe, front and rear strut braces and proably other things. So it is minus weight stripped or lighter items plus all the tough parts.
If it was stripped out any more, it'd be an engine with 4 wheels & a seat My RTA rego papers show my 2 seater at 1560kg. John's looks like an ex 2+2 but hard to tell since all it is inside is a seat and role cage, but anyway that's at least 250kg ligther then mine already so how did we get 160kg in the question ??? I must admit i like the drags, but i don't buy drag cars to get me to work, more like a car that proves itself on the race track with ALL ROUND performance, isn't that what we all love, to zoom around corners till our head feels like its going to start smacking the windows. I think anyone can spend some serious dollars, buy a massive engine, stick nos in it, change the gearbox so you don't have to worry about gearing for turns, just all drag ratio and go nuts, but i can't see you doing the old roads with much success, ... HELL until i can get my hands on a jet engine, or earn enough to build a top fuel engine that's good for one run at the drags, i'll keep trying to get my car to be a consistent track animal like the slot car, and have fun wiping the smile off the faces of the Skyline fans when a 300zx keeps lapping the GTR's round a race track...GO THE Z AND knowing that if i actually wanted to i could do a "cannonball run" up the old pacific highway and not have to worry about Highway Patrol keeping up. Not that we ever do that sort of thing...well not till nissan build a motorbike anyway hehehe Adrian
More pics I also have vid which we will put on our site of me doing a burn out. The slot car hooked up and got very sideways and Wizard jumps out of the way.
Top pic's  Wizard disappearing in the smoke! Very appropriate for a Wizard Was a great night, slot car looked awesome. Congrats on the 10.7 guys!
Nice job... Really setting the bar quite high. *sigh* its almost coming up to a year now since my car went in for some minor work and its still off the road, otherwise Id be liking to make you work a bit harder for top spot. Got a dyno sheet of your new turbo setup? Im interested to see how these perform.
