Been told by the guy at the compliance workshop that my tint is too dark and I'll need to remove/replace it. Anyone managed to get through the pits with darker than legal tint? If so which exam centre? Maybe worth a shot being only $35 for subsequent examinations. (assuming it isn't something the compliance guy needs to check off)

I also need catalytic converters put on, apparently like $180 and I need 2, how annoying.. anyone know a cheaper option?

Nope i think its gotta go

When my car came in the guy from the compliance workshop told me it has to go, basically mine was almost limo tint and theres no way its going to pass the pits i was told, so it came off, i doubt yours will pass the pits if you leave it on :(

Depends what else is on your car thats suspect

Guys at midland pits were very decent in their inspection and went out of their way to help me. So might get through with the tint, but be a gamble. As for Cats, gonna definately need them!

Spend a little more on the cats and get hi-flows.

    Stuff,

you can try and get away with it,
wind the windows down, and put light coloures stuff inside your car, but it's still a gamble,
I'm with Zxxx and pay a bit xtra and buy better cats whilst you have the opertunity..

    Have a crack...

If it were me I would have a crack at trying to get it over with the tint on. If it's not something the Compliance guy has in his report, then leave it.

If you take it over the pits and they don't suspect it, aweseome...you have a nice car with dark tint. If they do suspect it and tell you to change it, then you go change it...could be done in the same day and you wont have to pay the $35 for reinspection if you bring the car back on the same day...(Well I didn't anyway).

Basically you could save yourself hastle and $200 worth of tint if you get it over.

Catalytic Converters are a must and I'm surprised your car doesn't have them? As the others mentioned, get some hi-flow cats. You'll be grateful that you did if you change the exhaust later on...

I took mine to O'Conner pits. They were a bit busy that day so they went through the cars quickly. I got lucky...it seemed like they didn't really care. As long as you have that Compliance Report, you're fine.

This is what I'd be doing...

...Install cats and make sure EVERYTHING else is micky mouse.

I'd leave the tint on and try and get passed. If they don't pass it, rather than coming back, what they can do is scratch and peel some of it off. That way you don't need to go back and secondly, because they've made a mess of the tint, they know you're going to take it off. Then get it replaced with equal darkness or darker :p hehe

I know of a few yellow stickers coming off with scratched dark tint.

    crack....

Yeah I only had a quick look when the compliance dude said it needed cats but I wouldn't be surprised as it came with a half cage and a erm 'raced at some track' sticker :)
