agreed and thats how the likes of ferrari and lambo work

a bold move. What Nissan need to remember is, Ferrari and Lambo dont tend to mass produce in stupid numbers.

But if another thing top gear said is true (every engine is built by hand), then I can't see them mass producing the GTR in numbers anywhere near previouse GTR's or Z's.

Seems while the Z car was an "affordable sports car for the people" in its inception, the new GTR clearly is not.

All good points.. In my opinion, Nissan NEEDS to elevate the GTR to exotic level, this is purely marketing; how else can Nissan ask people spending $120k or so on their car? For a Jap car, this kind of ticket is unheard of.

The last Japanese manufacturer who wanted to make their car an "exclusive exotic" and price it accordingly was Honda with their NSX, and, good as the car is, sales-wise it was a flop.

yep. but a flop that now holds its value.

    which is nice

I love the way top gear mention the NSX in passing

    its always the same....

they'll be talking about a sports car in a price bracket and say "after you've considered all options - pause - and discounted the Honda NSX........"

    always the same

wow...I think I'll wait for the lexus LFA to be released. It sounds like Nissan has made the GTR so wonderfully complicated that they don't even want to touch it or fix it, let alone pay for it.

Unheard of? The Infinity Q45 carried a $134, 000 price tag in 1993... the Lexus LS400 of the same year (V8 Soarer) was only a little cheaper. These days Lexus demand $250K for LS600hL (Hybrid V8).

    Unheard of.. no. Unwise....probably.

The maintenance costs of the GTR need to be addressed because it has been marketed the world over as a 'poor' mans 911 Turbo. So far it has proved it can punch above its weight as a performance car... let's see if it can be as reliable in the longer term.

LS400 is NOT the v8 soarer, it's the sedan (Toyota Celsior).
Anyway, the cars you listed are luxury offerings, not sports cars. It's still new for people to pay above 100k for a Jap sports car.

I give it 3 years before HKS, OS Giken or Trust come up with a engine sleeve kit and a fancy set of rings that work just as well as this Plasma stuff. Doesn't sound that much different to the nikasel stuff they use on the super bikes anyway...

Wait a few years and these engines will be just a fiddleable as the RB26 is now.

On that note R34 GTR's will be coming down in price

When 300zx was released in Australia in 1990 it was $69k.
Not sure about how much late models cost here, but I do know that Nissan was struggling to shift them.

Thats why i said late model... on redbook price for a 96 NA auto is $87195 and price for a 95 25th anniversery is $92 995, i can only assume youd be paying more overseas for TT's...

Tektrader nailed it. Look at this this way...

If we can't trust Nissan to work on our Z32's or the average Joe Blogg mechanic, how on earth is GTR owner going to let someone work on their car? Especially with its complicated service requirements such as engine rebuild every 100,000Km. And we think that the Z 100,000km service is expensive at about the 1.5-2K.

My opinion is that in about 10-15yrs time the GTR will most likely end up in the same situation as the Z32. TOO HEAVY, OVERHEATS, ENGINE BLOWS UP, MAKES YOU GO BOLD, WHATEVER and as cheap as due to neglect of maintenance by their owners once the novelty runs out. And then they will be bought by the 18yos such as the Z32 buyers now for the "pose/look at me factor" and have all sorts of problems.

Its becoming apparrent that the GTR is a waste of time. Great for the wnk factor but no thanks. Besides, a good example of a Z32 still kills it in the looks dept, "both inside and out" end of story.

As i read that i was honestly thinking "BS... it will never become as cheep as the Z32 has"

and part of me still thinks im right.... BUT.........

when the Z32 hit the market with its high rolla price tag.....
Would anyone had believed it would be owned 1 day by P plater students for around $10K?

    honestly?
