Just browsing through the JSpec car list, and came across a "1997 Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Version R non turbo series 3" http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/index.php?ID=6230 Just wondering what were the differences between these and normal/non version R 300s.
I knew someone would ask this As I was listing that car I knew someone would end up asking on here sooner or later The differences are minimal. In 1997 they introduced the Version S and Version R names, and there was still just a regular Fairlady Z named version also. Version R: 2+2 TT and NA only Rear spoiler optional No power seats Version S: 2+2 TT and NA 2 seater NA manual only 2 seater TT manual only Convertible auto only Rear spoiler optional No power seats ABS optional, not standard Normal unnamed Z also sold at this time: 2+2 TT auto and manual only Auto climate control as in earlier models Power front seat Optional leather interior As Z's matured they were getting a bit expensive so Nissan cut back on the features... for the Version R and Version S despite the cool names they actually got slightly less in terms of features than the earlier models. Thats funny Blip I too thought they are somthing more special then the normal fairlady Z. Version R sounds so sporty and souped up like the silvia names but oh well. Its good to know that the early zeds nearly all of us drive were better cars then the later models which standard stuff became either optional or completely dropped. thanks for the info. cheers
Woohoo - it's argument time!!!! Awwww OK discussion then. I'm having a crap time at work and picking fights whenever and wherever I can. Version R - Intro'd in 1997. Quote below taken from Brian Long's "Z Car story": Referring to the Version R NA "A driver's side airbag, ABS, air, Recaro seats, simulated carbon fibre centre console, ... all came as part of the Version R package" There was also a TT version R, which would have had ABS as standard anyway. This implies that Nissan were packaging options into the Version R much the same way as Holden are doing at the moment with the SSZ Dunnydoor, and Holfordubishiyota have being producing optioned up discounted specials for yonks. The version S was intro'd in 1994, but was continued into the 2000 models along with the the version R. The 2000 Version R is clearly shown in the Nissan brochure with a rear spoiler on the NA as standard, but the Version S and the standard do not. The Version S did not have Recaro seats - but there was a Version S Recaro, which did, and also had BBS wheels as standard. These wheels were optional on other cars in the range. Your J-spec ad says the car has Recaro's, and the Midnight Purple colour was released in 1997 - so that all fits. From the interior pic I can't make out if the console has c/f overlay - perhaps worth following up??? Jeez, if I had a few more shekels in the piggybank I'd be interested in this as a daily driver .......
