Not the worst accident you see going round here, but still pissed me off!

Some guy backed into the car while I was at dinner and did this:

I suppose I was lucky given that he came looking for me after it happened, but now I have to ring up for quotes and stuff which is more hassle than I need right now. Kinda funny tho, it looks like its all surface stuff a panelbeater could fix but his car's (mazda 121) rear bumper split all the way from top to bottom and he's going to need to have the whole thing replaces[TIS]

Yeah not all that keen to make the 600k round trip... There's a place about 10 mins away from me that did my front end respray and my side skirt fit/spray and I was pretty happy with their work. I think I'll go through them

is the panel rippled or just the paint damaged?

Panel is rippled, obviously my desired end result is to have a rear quarter that looks perfect with no sign at all that anyones hit it. Would it be better to get another panel and get it sprayed or would it still look fine if the panelbeaters have their way with it?

I'm not going to be paying for this (the guy agreed to pay cash and not go through insurance) and hes agreed that he will pay for whatever method gets it looking good and not just the cheapest method. Has anyone ever got a quote for a panel off Nissan?

    (jk not that mean)

Need a whole rear quarter cut to replace. Not as easy as a front fender lol. Not cheap, but at least you arent paying for it.

Edit: oops, MagicMike here on Cara's laptop.

most places wont touch a 1/4 panel replace. its a pain in the butt to do right.

I hope it can be fixed to your liking.

Hmm im interested to see how much it would cost, anyone have the part number for the panel?

It's not just a panel, it's part of the whole car. To replace the panel you would need to cut the panel out in the least noticible places, then have the new one welded in. Much much easier to just get a panel shop to repair it. At the end of the day what does it matter as long as you can look at it and not tell that it has been damaged?

Its not THAT bad to replace it for a well equipped shop, and if you're not paying for it why not?

im sure if you told the guy he had to fork out the cash to replace that whole panel he might reneg on that promise. I tink the repair bill for a rear 1/4 replacement and respray on my mates skyline was up around the 6 to 7k mark. Just get that panel repaired, you will be amazed at what a good panel beater can do.

To replace that panel for what appears to be a relatively minor ding, is overkill in the extreme IMHO.
Yes, I'd be pissed-off if it was my car, but I would be more concerned about blending the paint correctly, rather than repairing the ding(which is pretty easy by comparison).:zlove:

I'm having some similar hassles at the moment. I had a taxi run up my arse while stopped in traffic a few weeks back, taking some paint of the rear bumper. Not major damage, but still very annoying having to do the run-around to get quotes etc.

He was happy to offer me $50 or $60 on the spot, because apparently that's all he thought it would cost to get it fixed, and gave me his details. But now that the insurance company has tried to contact him with the bill for ~$480, he hasn't been heard from. I too, would have gone down the private settlement option, but he never bothered to get in contact with me, so I handed it over to insurance to look after.

Yeah he use to work with me, so if things do go South (which I doubt) I've got all the details I need for insurance to handle it, atm hes looking at a $500 bill for the panelbeaters to take care of it which he will probably be able to pay

just remember, if you have not reported it to the po po insurance might not like it much...

a good panel man will sort that little bit of damage no problem a full rear quater replace would be a nightmare and may not come up as good as you think.
Not worth the hassle different if the whole quater was caved.
