Hi all, Just got back on the road 2 days ago after losing my licence for 6 months, anyway i was driving the zed today and when i turned right i started hearing this loud ticking sound that got louder the more i turned to the right. I went back home and on the way its started to get worse and now continues for a short while in straight lines and for a short period after large bumps. Please help will possible fixes.
checked them 2 days ago when i bled the brakes and 2 mins ago when i went round and tried to tighten them again, none of them budged so not wheel nuts
anyone??? I don't want to drive her tommorow but i don't have any other way of getting out to where i am working right now.
the only thing i can think of is just the way you have put it together...maybe something is tapping on something else. if worst comes to worst, take off those wheels and reassemble the parts again, ie. the ones taken off to bleed your brakes....sorry that was probably no help at all
A Few questions Has this only happened since you did the brakes, and did it happen instantly Where is the noise coming from List of Jobs (assuming the noise is only since brakes and the noise is from the front) Check power steering fluid unlikely but hey lets start off with the easy ones so we dont pull the hole car apart first Check the wheel is not scraping on the inner wheel guards Jack up the whole front of the car and check the assembly of your calipers and also visible suspension components shaking them will reveal if they are loose obviously everything is supposd to be reasonably tight.
I had a ticking coming from the front of the car at one point. Ended up being a balance weight (lead weight put on when the tyres were last changed). It had worked loose and was making quite a loud noise. I was surprised, as I didn't think something like that would make such a loud noise. Just something else to check
thanks guys. Put the zed over the pit at home (gotta love having one of them) and saw that the lower starter motor bolt had stripped its thread and disappeared, the only thing that was holding it in place was the top nut that i had replaced with a lock nut anyway. I believe this is the problem as it only started today and everytime i've gone to kick over the motor i've heard a loud clunk like the starter motor teeth are barely touching the flywheel, prolly gotta check the flywheel now for any lost teeth, flush the gearbox out while i'm at it. I have to now get a helicoil for it as there is no thread left and the starter motorU hole that you pass the bolt through is just about the same size as the hole so it prevents any larger bolts being used to simply tap out a larger hole. Thanks to those that have offered advice and i'll post up what the conclusion is
I've got the same prob, whoever pulled my gearbox last time stripped the lower bolt, it's still there and has a little tension on it but need to sort it out. :/
the flywheel and the gearbox internals are completely seperated, so if it has chewed a bit of metal off the flywheel or the starter ring gear it can't get into the gearbox itself
oh yeah, forgot about that , that makes me alot happier to know that i can't have a flywheel tooth messing around with my gears. Thanks blackheartedprofit
