If a driveshafts Uni joint (this one near spline) feels notchy in only one direction, uni joint pretty much stuffed right. Movement in other direction is smooth. This is a non serviceable uni joint so cant pump it with grease to improve situation. :(

Certainly on its way to being stuffed.

Evan is right. On its way to being knackered. That being said though. Most of the unis on our two piece are like this but are still running well. Would keep it as a service item you keep an eye on. Then in the future aim for a one piece shaft with serviceable and or replaceable unis.

Would tapping a hole in notchy uni joint for grease nipple and filling it up be worth it?

lol . how are you going to keep the bits of metal out of the bearings, it wont work there not designed that way

Umm, you might try but there is no guarantee that the uni shaft itself is drilled end for end to distribute the grease to the 4 bearings.
You may have to drill and fit 4 zerks and individually grease each bearing.
be interesting to note if anybody has actually dismantled a stock non-serviceable unit joint to find out.
As a rule, if the bearings are notchy, then the damage is already done....as a rule!!!

Was more of a side thought if it could be done or not.. thinking about it more ha! probably not a good thing to do for a high speed spinning part..

Well, its a valid thought M8 and not that long ago, uni yokes came crossdrilled with a zerk screwed either into the guts of the yoke or into one of the cups that your thinking.
Pretty much all heavy vehicle unis are fitted with zerks either directly into the cup or right into the guts of the yoke itself.

Ive not seen that kind of uni in car size with a grease fitting for many years tho.

Back in the day that was..... you also had them on all your tie rod ends and in all sorts of other places on the suspension. Cars also required a regular Lube job...... Oh I remember my 68 Datto, getting out with the grease gun and going hell for leather at it.

Hehehehe Im pretty old school trained and I still hang onto a lot of old engineering terms.
Zerk fitting is a typical grease nipple, Capscrew for an Allen head bolt.
Cardan joint is a Uni joint and so-on!

When i go into the nut and bolt joint down here asking for capscrews, i usually get a blank look from the youngers guys but one or 2 of the old dudes' eyes light up!!!!!

    Newhoo!!!

I work in the mining industry and we use socket head cap screws/bolts all the time ;). I dont believe in calling them allen head bolts. Does that make me old

I get sore nipples from just hearing about it :D

The wife is already jealous I spend so much time with my fairlady, I wonder what she will think when I say I have to grease her nipples! :D
